These are the albums I listened to more than once but I didn't have a favorite:

    Julianna Barwick/Will
    Nik Bartsch/Continuum
The Beatles/Live at The Hollywood Bowl
    David Bowie/Blackstar
The Claypool Lennon Delirium/Monolith of Phobos
    Gong/Rejoice! I'm Dead!
Mark Korven/soundtrack to The Witch [Maybe this was my favorite.]
    Marillion/F. E. A. R.
    Motorpsycho/Here Be Monsters
Moulettes/Preternatural ["Behemoth" was my favorite track of the year.]
Opeth/Sorceress [Probably my biggest disappointment of the year.]
    Radiohead/A Moon Shaped Pool
    VdGG/Do Not Disturb

Yet to hear 2016 releases by Arabrot; Knifeworld; and Swans.
    For that which is not,
there is no coming into being
    and for that which is,
    there is no ceasing to be;
yea of both of these the lookers into truth have seen an end.

Here's how I'd rate my 2016 purchases at this moment. I just recently got a bunch of these, so I'm still getting my ears around a lot of them. I will definitely be getting the Gosta Berlings Saga when available, so that is missing from the list for now.

    Love these:

    Amoeba Split - Second Split
    Ampledeed - BYOB
    Deus Ex Machina - Devoto
    Utopianisti - The Third Frontier
    Panzerpappa - Pestrottedans
Luz de Riada - Cuentos Y Fabulas, Volume 3
    Macroscream - Macroscream

Like these a lot, some I'm still absorbing:

    Tauk - Sir Nebula
An Endless Sporadic - Magic Machine
    Anakdota - Overloading
Promenade - Noi Al Dir Di Noi

Like these OK, some I'm still absorbing:

TEE (The Earth Explorer) - Tales of Eternal Entities
    Beledo - Dreamland Mechanism
    Herd of Instinct - Manifestation
    Moogg - Italian Luxury Style
    Seven Impale - Contrabasso
    Il Rumore Bianco - Antropocene

    So-so on these:

Nuova Era - Return to the Castle
Sanguine Hum - What We Ask is Where We Begin (Sort of doesn't count because it's older material, but I'd never heard any of it before)

I've finally had several listens to all the 2016 albums I have

I did something very different this year (which is why it took so long to evaluate all of them) I decided to get any and every album that was highly rated by my Prog peers... even though I suspected that some would not be my cuppa. Fortunately, there were some surprises there, even if many wound up being "exactly who we thought they were"

top Prog albums of 2016 (to my ears):

    13 Panzerpappa - Pestrottedans
13 Asturias - At The Edge Of The World
13 Human Factor - Homo Universum
    12 Agusa - Katarsis
12 Endless Season - Endless Season
12 Gösta Berlings Saga - Sersophane
11 Amoeba Split - Second Split
11 Bocca della Verità, La - Avenoth
    11 Bubu - Resplandor (EP)
11 Causa Sui - Return to Sky
11 Deus Ex Machina - Devoto
    11 Dungen - Häxan
11 Floyd Bridgewater - Yacht Club
11 Nichols, Matt - Last Exit in NY
    11 Pinhas, Richard / B.Cleveland, M.Manring, Alberti - Mu
    11 RasaSound - Beginnings
11 TEE (The Earth Explorer) - Tales of Eternal Entities
    11 Vespero - Lique Mekwas
11 Wallimann, David - Evolving Seeds of Glory
    11 Norlander, Erik - Surreal
    11 Campos, Xan - ESD

not sure if any of the "also rans" could creep up to an 11 upon subsequent listens... perhaps... we'll see

    but

the "not my cuppas" are bands that I wont be getting any other albums by for sure. Either they were either too Pop/Prog, safe, overly-vocal or just abrasive-for-abrasiveness-sake ... IMO of course
    BB Train
    Bent Knee
    Anakdota
    Jackoclock
    Elephant Tok
    Shamblemaths
    Karmakanik
    Monarch
    Metamorfosi (though I love Inferno)
    Yugen
    Winstons
    Our Solar System
    Rumore Bianco
    Infinien
    Thumbscrew
    AxonNeuron
    Dharmawan, Dwiki
    and last and WAY least
    Kurushimi

and it wasn't for lack of trying cause I listened to each 2016 album a minimum of 3 times through, some even more times
sometimes a thing just aint yer cuppa
I *will* say that there were interesting moments in all of the albums I didn't like (except one) but just not enough interesting moments to overcome the main vibe
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
