It's okay if you don't like Beefheart, but "I don't like him, therefor he's gimmicky" is a poor argument. I don't have to be a fan of Beefheart, or music, to tell you that.
Why are we talking about Beefheart in a Cardiacs thread?

Subject closed as far as I'm concerned, unless someone wants to start a separate thread. Cardiacs are an interesting band with a fascinating career (if you can call it that) trajectory, it's great to read about them here. Big respect to all involved in the band for following their own star through difficult times.
I have started. I've ordered On Land and in the Sea. Also got Bob Drake's new album.
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

That's what I hear. Thank you, Ians. Looking forward to the new music.

I didn't say that at all. My view is the opposite in fact. I disliked him because I felt he was gimmicky. That was the cause of my dislike. I didn't start to dislike him for another reason & then conclude he was gimmicky. I wrote,"I gave up on Beefheart in the 80s. Gimmicky, which might have appealed in the 60s & 70s. But I never saw the appeal."
Anyway, case closed as far as I'm concerned. Back to Cardiacs.
Is Tim a football fan or can he give two moose sacks about it?
I need to hear Dirty Boy in Headphones too loud right now. OH yeah.
Right now - gun to my head - Dirty Boy is my favorite song of all time. Write that down.
Alright here's my theory....this song enters the second plateau during the chorus at 3:38. He seems to do a crescendo on that chorus and he keeps modulating that chord structure - tons and tons of tension. Then he takes it into a new universe until the end, but I think it starts at that spot at 3:38 "Wipes Last". You wonder how the song can possibly go anywhere after that beginning, which is already balls-to-the-wall, and its magic what he does with it. Or I might be full of shit.
Snatch that gravy up, Frank.
I'll report when plastic arrives at the homestead. Hugh Hopper and Tim Hodgkinson are also in transit. Hurray.
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.
"Heaven Born and Ever Bright" is perhaps the loudest, noisest, heaviest, most uncompromising thing they ever did.
And that's why I love it. I wish every band's 'worst album' was this good.

My good man, no album with Goodbye Grace can be a worst anything.
Excuse-ell-mee??? It is my favourite! And in the UK it is the fav of many of Cardiacs friends. My least favourite album, i.e. their one and only great album IMO is Guns.
Also they don't have a worst album!
My Cardiacs albums ranking looks like this:
Great = Guns, Rude Bootleg, The Obvious Identity (Cardiac Arrest)
Greater = Live (Amsterdam), Toy World, Sampler
Greatest = STG, Garage Concerts, Archive
Greatester = ALMAHATWWW, OLAITS, ATGIAMN, TSESOW
Greatestest = HB&EB, The Seaside, SFS&I, The Sea NYmphs, Mr & Mrs Smith & Mr Drake
And yes, I have got all of them.
Guns is really great! Been doing that one quite a bit recently. Jitterbug especially. I can't stop playing it. There's nothing else out there like it, absolutely amazing. Wind and Rains is Cold is also beautiful as can be. I did Songs for Ships and Irons again too, that is such a perfect album! Filled with "Cardiacs Classics."
I still don't have Heaven Born, does Wayside or the Cardiacs themselves stock this bad boy still or is it OOP?
Any fans of Wireless?? That's also of the most amazing pieces of music I've ever heard. I love the Children's story at the end, the scissor groove, and the melody lines for the vocals (especially the piano/lady voices!!) and just incredible. Writing from another dimension. TIM SMITH BABY

Lieto - I bought my copy of Heaven Born from Wayside. I just checked and I can't find it on wayside. I'd check with Steve to see if he plans to get any more. Looks like it's also gone from Cardiacs.net. Weird. Any insight as to why this is?
as for Wireless, you might want to check out Faust's IV album. Not quite as original as you might think.

If that's the case, then I'm glad these are selling well - and I better get around to picking up Guns and Tim's solo album!!
