Thread: Cardiacs--where to start?

  1. #3376
    Hi All,

Joining in the praise for this band. Thought I can ask a question.

Does anyone know if there is an official release of a live rendition of Dirty Boy?

No, although I might be wrong. But I don't think I am.
If it isn't Krautrock, it's krap.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully there is a way to unearth such rendition and release it.

It was played as an encore during The Garage Concerts. Not sure if it was recorded. Kavus Torabi might know about that.

I'm with you, man. Just about my fav tune ever, and I would love to have a good-sounding live version. Yeah, as 100 Dead said, Kavus would be the chap who knows what gems exists in the "vault" at this point.

If the 2005 Astoria dvd ever comes out they'd be releasing the best version of it i ever heard (or was it 2006?). The dirgeier it starts the better, seemingly. Dirgey Boy.

Speaking of DB, Kavus got it onto national radio on Sunday

Obviously it was. Hello, McFly? He posted a video above, cock.

OK, but was it *properly* recorded?

My guess is: Yes. Why wouldn't they also have recorded the encore(s)?

    Hey Kidz.
It was recorded at The Garage, along with the other two night's encores, Stoneage Dinosaurs and Big Ship, but never got mixed and fuck knows what happened to the obsolete ADAT tapes.
    Don't hold your breath.
However, you could run the Sing To God version through a shitty Metal Zone pedal with a flat battery and relive the experience in your own home.

So essentially there’s no such thing as a Cardiacs vault?

    The dog's eaten the tapes.

I think there's a plastic bag with some wires, a Star Wars figure and a couple of yachting magazines buried in Tim's garden somewhere. I've always thought of that as 'the vault', if that's what you mean.

No man, that’s not it. When you’re in a band and make a recording, a grown-up gives you a tape afterwards. You take the tape home. Then you put the tape in the fridge. That’s the vault. The fridge is the vault.

Now I wanna do a systematic unearthing of Tim's garden! Growing action man and whatnot in a baggy!

My 3-year old heard Cardiacs for the first time in the car yesterday. The song was "Flap Off You Beak" and about thirty seconds in he starts yelling loudly and kicking the seat. I turn it down and he says "No! Music on!!" - turns out the "yelling" was just him trying to sing along. Kid's gonna be alright...

I'm sorry but I just got my copy of that "shed" thing. I've already watched it three times today. I don't know what to think, what to do or where to go. What will happen to me next? Superb!

Other than some missing tunes - it is about as perfect for me as it gets. Full of banter - fighting - nonsense - tunes - noises - Ivy - and the end makes me cry like a baby.

If you don'y have all of the albums yet, then just go ahead and buy them all.
