Octavarium: Full Band and Orchestra Cover

This is not Eren Basbug's version from Turkey of a few years back, but a more recent one from the University of Surrey in England. The vocalist sounds not so much like Jimmy the Cheese, as more like a theater singer, and gives it the effect of some sort of gigantic show tune or perhaps a suite from a movie score.

The vocalist's name was still James.

Overall, nicely done. I think Dream Theater should use a conductor directing them in their live shows.

Here's a brief excerpt from a rehearsal of Eren Başbuğ's orchestral arrangements for Breaking the Fourth Wall. Interesting to hear - if you didn't know, you probably wouldn't realize the music was originally written as prog-metal. It sounds more like the work of some Late-Romantic or early 20-Century contemporary of Holst's, or perhaps a soundtrack to an Errol Flynn movie.

    John,
I agree....at certain points it reminded me of Holst's - Planets

    Sounded great.

That was a very impressive cover. Well done to everyone involved in that! It must have taken an incredible amount of work to produce...
