Fair enough. I was just curious.
Think of a book as a vase, and a movie as the stained-glass window that the filmmaker has made out of the pieces after he’s smashed it with a hammer.
-- Russell Banks (paraphrased)
Everything on Bandcamp is available in FLAC and all the other formats. A band uploads a master file (usually a WAV at CD or better quality) and seconds later anyone can buy it in any format.

Not only do I love Bandcamp, but I'm on Bandcamp.
It's wonderful to see an ethical music-related business be so successful. I'd hosted my music in various places before that and had to move around when they all inevitably failed. Bandcamp has done a lot for me, even though my pitiful sales undoubtedly don't do much for them.
Bandcamp is the leading service for independent music nowadays. Love it!
There has been several occasions over the past year where a Bandcamp page doesn't offer a cd, just a download. That doesn't always mean a cd is unavailable.I've gone to the record label page for these releases and in some cases a cd is available. It pays to also check the label's site,if, like me, you still prefer a cd to a download.

I buy all my music from Bandcamp. My favorite feature is "browse by tags". Don't know why they bury that feature halfway down the page. It's an amazing filtering tool that allows me to quickly discover new bands.

Ran into some Heidi Mortenson, which is older sounding synth type stuff. Sometimes poppy, sometimes darkish.
I only use Bandcamp for my own music. I prefer buying CD's without having to go the creditcard or paypal route.
What is miss is feedback.
For a completely obscure band like Vietgrove, Bandcamp is a vital means of getting our music into the world, as it's simply not worth the bother of pressing up 500-1,000 cds anymore and watching them gather dust in a corner. Seriously, it seems like within minutes of a new cd being released by anybody (including us!) it's up on some Russian website for complete download - completely negating the point of going to all that trouble by the artists to produce a new album in the first place. BC does at least present some degree of ability to beat the internet vampires at their own game, and recognises the reality of the music industry in 2016. It's not ideal, but it's better than nothing, and in theory at least having your music available for download on BC should make it available to a wider audience. That said, one of the problems we encountered when we released The Stellar Nursery back in 2012 was that a number of the big music websites/magazines wouldn't review anything that wasn't available in a physical medium, which presented serious difficulties for an act of such limited means as us in publicising our music. I'm not sure if that's still the case, but it certainly was then.
Btw, if anybody's interested, you can find our album here:

The Stellar Nursery is indeed a stellar album. I bought it from bandcamp back when it was released and have played it often.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?
There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
Played it so much I even begged Mark on Facebook to do another. Stellar Nursery, and Harvest Aorta's Ephemeral Sun, are my two fave instrumental albums of all time.
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Since at PE we love the artists making the music, here is an important part: 85 - 90% of my money goes to the artists, against less than 55% at iTunes [$0.698 out of $1.29) and about that at Amazon.
Bandcamp says "Pricing. Artist accounts are free. We make money through our revenue share on sales, which is 15% for digital, 10% for merch. We also offer Bandcamp Pro (our premium tier for artists), and Bandcamp for Labels, both for a monthly fee."
And it's fast: "For digital content: Your share of each digital transaction is transferred into your PayPal account 24 to 48 hours after the sale. "

Greetings,
I'm a big Bandcamp fan as well, both as an artist (Advent) and consumer. Some other things I really like about them (that I don't believe were mentioned previously):
- If you buy a CD from Bandcamp, you get immediate access to download the album while you're waiting for the CD to arrive.
- You can download albums you purchase in multiple formats. (I usually grab the FLAC files for my hi-res lossless player and MP3 for my iTunes library as well.)
- If there's another Bandcamp customer whose taste resonates with you, you can follow them and see what they buy (and what's already in their collection).
- Some foreign CDs that are really costly to purchase can be downloaded (at CD quality) for a lot less on Bandcamp.
This has already been mentioned, but it is also the only resource I know for artists to offer hi-res downloads of their music--which is something we've done for Advent's latest album (beautifully mastered to 2496 by Bob Katz):

About the only complaint I have is that I don't care for their file-naming standard, which creates filenames that are often excessively long (some of which I have to manually shorten to play in my car on USB as well).
Cheers,
Alan
I also like that you can download the files as many times as you want, whenever you want, and in whichever format you want - the link is always available from within your Bandcamp collection.
I'm not sure if they've changed it, but I remember years ago buying some downloads from Steve Hogarth you were only allowed to download purchases three times, and you had a limited time in which you could download them. Those were still sort of early days for purchasing downloads though.
