I loved the spacey Riverside but I welcome back the heavy

Mariusz had previously mentioned in an interview that he was taking the music in a more aggressive direction for this album, and has hinted at using a different register for his vocals......

I'd be surprised if they drift too far from the established sound, but it's good to see them diversifying again. As much as I love Time Machine, there was a slight hint of continuing the same style from Shrine, easing off the pedal a little.

Looking forward to this album a lot.

My family is looking forward to the new album. Something we all agree on... Totally enjoy the arc of Riverside albums.
I felt Shrine was sort of a salute toward Jon Lord followed by shockingly sublime Time Machine.

My ridiculous reservations? Did Mariusz's Lunatic Soul gobble up all the creativity after spitting out two albums in two years? I adored Piotr Grudziński's guitar playing so much that I can't imagine a replacement.

It's a nice song, I think. I want to hear it in the context of the new album.
Riverside did play another song at the encore of their NOTP set. It was very gentle and slow, I liked it a lot too! Very much looking forward to the new album.

Another track from their new album:

Speaking about the song, Riverside vocalist and bassist Mariusz Duda says: “River Down Below is another song we've written with ‘river’ in the title, the fourth one, if I'm not mistaken.

“In our case, river symbolises memory and that's the case here as well. The lyrics tell the story of a wanderer, who accidentally finds the grave of one of those who didn't manage to survive the apocalypse. He hears a voice, ‘Take me from here, take me to the river, that's where I belong.’

“’If the band continue to exist, the memory of Grudzień will survive,’ said one of my friends when I thought it was the end of Riverside. So there had to be a track on the new album that would refer to it. Not literally. It's still a story about the world in an alternative future, but you can find that reference between the lines.”

Duda adds: “It's a very simple, delicate, and at the same time incredibly powerful song – one of the most beautiful Riverside melodies I have managed to write, with a brilliant solo by one of our guests, Maciej Meller.

“We have always subscribed to the idea that there's great power in simplicity. River Down Below showcases the essence of our music and gives an idea of the emotions which can be found on our upcoming new release.”

I've had a couple of listens so far. Too early to judge but I'd say this is obviously a lot darker than the last one.
