Well done, but a bit too heavy (ELP-like) for me.

Interesting because it's a true cover rather than a copy. These guys don't sound like Giant, and they aren't trying to. They're playing this their own way, and really giving a different flavor to it. In the process, they're illuminating the material's excellence: Usually, it's almost impossible to separate GG's songwriting from their eccentric sound, to imagine those songs without Derek's strained yelp, Kerry's clattering staccato on every keyboard, Gary's blues tone and phrasing, and John's Bonham-like bashing. But here, Gourishankar play a Giant song as more conventional prog-metal, and I can actually hear it as a composition, as something apart from GG's particular performance.

Wonderful acoustic rendition of “Raconteur Troubadour”.
Excellent job - a nearly note for note of the live version that Gary and Ray did as heard on Playing the Fool. Great reproduction of River as well. But I simply don't get the point of parroting the original. Is it simply to prove you can do it?
I can see two reasons:
1. Because you absolutely love the original, and can't see any way to improve upon it. Yes, a changed version will be different, and be something of your own. But will it be better, or even as good? GG were like Zappa in that they really didn't sound like anybody else, to the point where any prog band using counterpoint gets accused of being a Giant imitator.
2. The "Dweezil" reason: because you consider it something akin to classical music, consider GG's idiosyncratic timbres, phrasing, articulation, and accompaniment parts as much a part of the music as the vocal and lead lines, and you want to play it correctly.

Fair enough. Like I said well done, but for my tastes if I tackled a GG number I'd try to put a new slant on it like Oaksenham has done effectively IMO.
