We decided to open the GHM 2010 granache tonight (despite our agreement earlier today to tone down the wine consumption to once or twice a week ) ... now, let me just say that I am guilty of boyish enthusiasm and over-praising the most recent bottle I've had, if it's one I really like. But this one is no exaggeration, it was divine. Spicy, earthy and leathery on one hand, but a rich, deep berry bursting out too. Silky, but not in that Amarone/Ripasso kind of way. I just kept holding the sip in my mouth and letting the flavours reveal themselves... delightful, truly. I'd expect you'd like it a lot, Bill.

Tonight's bottle, which is decanting. I didn't do any research into food pairing, so let's just hope it goes well with braised ribs.

After a disappointing mid-week bottle ("Cigar Zin" which was way too boozy - I actually think it was a bad bottle), tonight's looks to be quite lovely:

Had lunch at Vineland Estates winery today, on a gorgeous summer afternoon. It was the most idyllic setting for a meal that I've ever had. The wine (Cab Franc) was excellent, and paired beautifully of course with the cheese board appetizer (complete with fruit, honeycomb and bee pollen). A more beautiful day is hard to imagine!

... I took this photo from my spot on the patio, without having to stand up. There was a group of people on a winery tour, traveling by helicopter:

Tonight's bottle. Beautiful nose that's noticeable from several feet away:

Glad you're enjoying these. I've had the Lopez, and it is very good. A bit pricey for what you get to my taste, but very good. I have not seen the Viña Olabarri, that is very interesting and I'll look for it.
I have two recent contributions. The first is one of four wines we bought when our local store had a big sale and we thought we'd try some pricier American Cabernets at a good discount. The first two bottles were rubbish, but we had this Charles Krug 2011 with steak tips, and it was really quite good: https://www.charleskrug.com/CabernetSauvignon.cfm. We have one left, I'm hoping it's as good as this Krug, which I may actually get more of.
The other we had and really liked is a real oddball. This is an Austrian Pinot Noir; Juris 2011. It was $25.00, but we had it at a tasting and it really did it for us. We had it last night with duck, and it totally delivered the goods. It is light in color and fairly fruit-forward, but has just a slight edge of oak, which gives it a nice body. It could hold up to even stronger dishes, but the duck really highlighted the full flavor of this succulent wine. Forget that it's from Austria, forget that it has a screw cap, this is a really good wine. Definitely might pick up more if the store still has some.

Just noticed this post Bill, how odd... but interesting that you were impressed by it!
Here's tonight's bottle, a French blend that is said to be an amazing bargain:
