Firefly Burning's first album was great. Haven't tried the second one yet. They describe themselves as minimalist avant-pop, or... hold on... let me just cut'n'paste their own words...

part art-folk song, part minimalist chamber music. Evoking sounds of Sufjan Stevens, Steve Reich and Kate Bush, the band draws on avant-pop, experimental folk, classical minimalism and Javanese Gamelan

Which prog bands/artists have really gotten you fired up about newer prog in recent years?
Sticking with the OP's parameters...I don't buy a ton of albums by new artists, and mentioning the last IQ album probably isn't what he's asking for either. So, I'll go with

Regal Worm -Use And Ornament An inventive Progressive Rock album with a pretty wide instrument palette, I can certainly recommend it.

But the album I really keep coming back to lately is Roz Vitalis -Lavoro D'Amore They've been around since the early part of the last decade, but I only found out about them this year from one of Greg Walker's mailings, and I decided to take a flyer. I think this album is fantastic, a near masterpiece. Don't be fooled by the Italian title, the band is Russian.

To which you can add Scherzoo (and to a lesser extent Unit Wail) and last year's Vak release

outstanding one-day festival indeed, though I must say I was close to saturation at one point.
