Your favourite progressive blues song ever? (pick one!)

My fav is Šumadijski Blues by Smak (1976)

the original studio version, released as a B-side of their single from 1976

    live in NYC, 1976

live in Ušće park, Belgrade, 2015

"Šumadijski" referring to "Shumadia", a central part of Serbia - Šumadija is also the place where the band were formed - with pleasant landscapes what the band successfully captued in both lyrics & music, so that pastoral element is great in this blues song.

Agree with Zeuhlmate. Except for the lyrics part.

I was in doubt about what Svetonio was after, Johnnys lyrics are fine, but I have no idea who made the best progressive blues lyrics.

Cryin' In The Rain - Whitesnake (1987) - if Aynsley Dunbar's drumming isn't proggy enough for you, try the placement of the accents in the chorus - sounds simple, until you go to play it and realize where they're actually placed.

Maybe 15 years ago I built a big addition on a house. The home owners knew a painter and he had a guy helping him who gave me one of his cds. He was a blues guy from Transylvania and this is the title track from the disc. Seemed appropriate with the election coming up.

Not sure what "progressive blues" is. Is it the type of blues-based stuff originally of the undergr0und scene of the late 60s, early 70s? Traffic, Colosseum, Zeppelin that type of thing?

Yep, along with Cream, Juicy Lucy, May Blitz, Free, Hendrix, Procol Harum, Robin Trower, Spooky Tooth etc. Even Uriah Heep.

It’s the only song like that. The rest is herky-jerky avant-garde jazz-rock.
