Has it been mentioned here before? It apparently came out in August, but I just found out about it yesterday. And promptly jumped into my car to hit the record store and buy a copy.

Thanks for the bump on this great master. I listened to it before, I really liked it. I'm always a bit tenuous going into his new work, I'm never quite sure whats in there! This was really quite beautiful.
I for one am a huge fan of his earlier solo work. I don't think anyone tops him in my book. I long for new work like that, but i know that train has left the station, leaving beautiful works behind in its place.
I always look for new work he's doing. Total fan.

Can't remember but I listened it immediately it appeared on Spotify and also bought it immediately after I heard "Opening".

I love his first four albums, but he really accomplished something altogether very interesting this past decade. His work is strange, beguiling and almost endlessly fascinating, IMO.

Art Rock at its best. A really great album of that genre.

Didn't know about this soundtrack. Thanks!

Man, I find it a darn shame nobody ever talks about his Nite Flights songs. Those four songs are in my opinion the zeitgeist of the transition of music from the 70's to the 80's. I also just wanted to bump this thread because everyone needs to know about Scott Walker, all of his solo albums are incredible pieces of work. Tilt is probably my favorite, and people need to stop saying it's terrifying and inaccessible, it's a beautiful album. Save that description for the next two.

I think his albums from Tilt onwards are best made by anyone. Not an easy listen and I'm rarely in the mood for them, but I appreciate them as being great, great works of music.

He's one of my favorites. Love nearly everything through Climate of Hunter (even the 70's country-ish albums are well worth a listen). Tilt onward got a bit scary for me but I'm going to give those another chance since Halloween is around the corner. Listened to this masterpiece yesterday:

I agree with this. Magnificent albums. There is also some great stuff on his earlier records. Like song "The Old Man's Back Again (Dedicated to the Neo-Stalinist Regime)" on Scott 4.

I tried many times to 'get into' his music and failed until one day I was having another go and my wife asked who was that signing. She pointed out his use of extended vocal techniques like those used in modern classical music - she is a voice and piano graduate of Oberlin and Yale. We listened more and she described the often difficult physical aspects of the techniques he was using and how he was an exceptional exponent of same - not just a rock star dilettante. Needless to say we dug deeper and spent the evening listening to all the YouTubes of recordings and documentary material we could find.
Since then I have acquired just about every note he recorded that I can get my hands on. Chalk one up to having married someone smarter than myself.

The Night Flights tracks he did (side 1?) are amazing as are Scott 1-4. After that it’s a bit weird but always interesting!

I think that other tracks on the Nite Flights are also (mostly) quite good.

Thanks for bumping this topic. I'm definitely going to check this out. Based on a couple of tracks I agree right off the bat, he is an amazing singer both technically and emotively!

Don't listen to Scott often but when I get in that lone Walker mood, then nothing satisfies like Scott.

    Thoughts on Scott Walker?

    He is a true outlier.

    He is a genius.

    His music is difficult.

    His lyrics are powerful.

Small wonder no one ever talks about him.

His music is genuinely interesting. He is a one of a kind artist. At the same time, I will seldom ever be in the mood to listen to any of his recent music. If I am, it's a track or two.
I feel the same about many virtuoso artists, though, in which the technique overshadows the musicality.
That's why I like 70s progressive rock. Most of it walked that perfect line that lights up all areas of the brain.
I love his first 4 albums, though. Particularly 2.

Aside Bowie, Walker's influence is obviously traced in David Sylvian records.

I have most of his albums from Climate of Hunter on, but have never owned any of his earlier stuff. I see that there is one of those cheapo 5-CD box sets containing his first five albums (skipping the TV one), so I've just ordered that.

I also got that box set recently. Scott 3 and Scott 4 are quite nice records. But of course nothing compared to stuff he nowadays does!
