Thing is though, very few of the bands of the 60s that would become the acknowledged prog rock bands of 70s released debuts that were prog albums. It wasn't really until Neo in the 80s that debuts by prog bands were actually prog albums.
So, that in mind, and considering my fav bands, I feel compelled to say Marillion - Script For A Jester's Tear.

Okay, I'll bite. I know next to nothing about SM. So do tell, Vol II was their debut?

OR are you reading the thread title in the other very possible way i.e a band's prog music debut as opposed to a bands first album?

prog-debut (music) album OR prog (band) debut-album

E.G. Genesis' prog-debut is Trespass not FGTR.

I'll take Toughts Of Emerlist Davjack over ELP's best album (which is the debut)
