Thread: Hardest rocking/heaviest ECM albums?

  1. #26
Also Everyman Band with David Torn

First choice would have been Rypdal Chaser as posted by Dave (in MA). The Music Improvisation Co. w/ Jamie Muir and Derek Bailey has some fierce poop on it, Om w/ Christy Doran too. Contact Trio / Prints has moments. Since zutul didn't post a clip, here's a not so crisp copy of one from Everyman Band...Turn it up!

Only the opening track, "Laser". The rest is almost ambient/space music.

"Laser" draws a lot of complaints from the members of the ECM e-mail list.

    Timeless does indeed ROCK
as do some of the Rypdal albums like Blue and Chaser
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Well, I’d call it neither “hard rocking” nor “heavy,” but Wolfgang Dauner’s Output is probably the last thing one thinks of when one imagines the stereotypical ECM album:

Confirmed Bachelors: the dramedy hit of 1883...

David Torn's Present has some heavy guitar playing on it. Well worth getting, if you ask me.
