I recall that back when Dweezil stated ZPZ, he was talking about playing festivals like Zappanale, or gigging with the Ed Palermo Band and other Zappa cover bands. His idea, at that point, was to have the best, most accurate FZ repertory band, not the only one. Later he changed his tune and followed Gail's line, but I always wondered whether he did so more out of necessity than conviction - whether he needed to take the Gail Party Line to avoid her giving him grief over playing the music. Now it looks like it might have been out of necessity.

And I wonder whether Gail intentionally assigned the rights to the Zappa kids who would follow in her obstructive, greedheaded footsteps; I would not put it past her to do exactly that.

I read this elsewhere. It's very, very sad, and fairly crazy. Dweezil's fans won't care what the name is and will fully understand. Dweezil can no longer use his father's photos and I assume, videos. That's terrible as well. What can be done except to keep supporting Dweezil live and Frank's music. Sigh.

Although we were initially promised the release of a treasure trove of unreleased FZ material now that Ahmet and Diva are in charge of the ZFT, I am tempted to boycott anything they release, since my perception is their motivation to do so is simple greed. Fuck them.

I really don't think the name change will hurt Dweezil. it does make me side with him though. The sad thing is that it's probably the last thing Frank would want.
