I have a friend who's family name is Till, he wanted to call his daughter Jenna, we told him it wasn't his best idea.

Violins were not invented yet when Nero burned Rome down. I think he actually played a mellotron.

And how were the sounds of the mellotron created?

Let us hope Jenna Till doesn't marry a man named Herpes.

Someone told me they used primitive stringed instruments, but I think he was a lyre.

My co-worker Roger Cass almost named his son Jack.

    What, not the "Swallows-Cox" one?

I know a person in real life with the hyphenated last name Biggs-Tinker.

I'm not sure if it is a proper name or if Frank and Gail just liked the word (in its true meaning). I think it's rather an attractive name, personally... it's just too bad about the modern connotation. :/
According to an article in The Guardian: "originally coined back in the late 19th century, a "diva" was more likely to be associated with the idea of a prima donna. The actual word can be traced back to operatic roots, describing a larger-than-life global songstress. So it had also meant "prima donna for many decades already, assuming the article is correct. I think names like Moon Unit and Dweezil are obviously meant to be silly, but I can't see naming an infant "Diva." What if she turned out to be a complete wallflower? Yeah, people can name their kids whatever they want, but this one just seemed weird and distasteful to me. Of course, I had never heard of Diva Zappa until reading this thread.

At least in that letter where he's talking about his parents to his brother he refers to them as "our mother" and "our father." I think Ahmet uses "Frank" and "Gail" in the same context to make it seem like he had more of a business relationship with them, but just guessing. Or it's just his habit.

Well, I wanted to name my son Tone, from a character in a Twilight Zone episode (if I am remembering correctly). I thought it was a really cool name, especially for the son of a musician. His mother didn't agree. We settled on Nicholas, which my son is grateful to his mother for..........though I think when he gets older, he'll see that my idea was much cooler.

I have a vague recollection I read somewhere that Frank and Gail raised their kids to call them by their proper names. I can't verify that though, but when I tried to google it I found this from http://www.zappaplayszappa.com/clipp...nadvocate.html:

Did Dweezil always call his dad Frank? “Yeah,” he replies with a dry laugh. “All the kids did. I don’t know why. We call my mom Gail too.”
