    Heaven's All-Star Band

    (Is this too morbid?)

    Who's playing? I've got:

    Vocals: Prince
    Keyboards: Keith Emerson
Guitars: Frank Zappa and Terry Kath
    Bass: Chris Squire
    Drums: John Bonham

    What's your starting line-up?

(Rest In Peace to al the above, my beloved heroes...)

    No Hendrix.. no band..

Prince as vocals would make me cringe with that falsetto of his. The greatest rock singer of all time would be fronting my lineup

    Vocals: John Lennon
    Guitar: Jimi Hendrix
    Guitar: Johnny Winter
    Bass: Jack Bruce
    Drums: Mitch Mitchell
    Keyboards: Jon Lord

Seems a waste of talent not to have Prince play any instrument.
Hopefully, in your concept, the dead heroes enter Heaven with their playing skills restored to the level of their younger days...

    Good band, but

One does not have Jack Bruce in a band and replace him on lead vocals with a lesser singer.

    IMO, of course.

Don't forget The Righteous Brothers, who sang, "If there's a rock and roll heaven, you know they got a hell of a band" in 1973...

I wouldn't call John lesser. But, as truly great a singer as Jack was (one of the greatest ever, IMO), since I took away John's rhythm guitar, it only seemed fair.

I'm thinking at least some of these musicians would be playing in Hell's All-Star band. I mean, some of them must have sold their souls at the crossroads...

I have seen it theorized that the reason Keith Richards is still alive is that the Devil fears a takeover.

I'd restore Lennon's rhythm guitar playing and let him sing backup. As an added bonus, Yoko's still among the living, so he won't drag her along.

I like the idea of including the jazzers, although I'd add a few more horns:

    Snooky Young: lead trumpet
    Bob Brookmeyer: second trombone, compositions
    Gerry Mulligan: baritone sax, clarinet

    And also

Put FZ and Prince on guitars as well as writing,
Add Charles Mingus on upright bass and compositions,
and add Phil Ochs as a lyricist.

And if you'll give me all the recording rights, thank you.

I've tried to put together bands of various genres but then thought we've practically already got some (with one original member extant):

Country rock: The Flying Burrito Brothers
    Blues rock: Canned Heat
    Glam: the Spiders from Mars
    Lou

Looking forward to my day in court.
