Thanks, I see it's about Andy Latimer, so now I can participate.
Maybe not the most technically capable guitarist in my book, but certainly the man with a couple of the most sensitive, emotional guitar-solo's I know.
The Snow Goose is full of them, but also songs like Ice, Summer Lightning, etc. have often given me goose-flesh. It's the tone and the melody.
My favourite guitarist and Camel are my favourite band. Just wonderful!
I love Andy's playing, great feel and emotion in his playing. He is easily in my top 10 favorite players of all time. Just as important (to me anyway), I love Camel's music, so he is a player and a writer!
He's no Hackett or Howe--but he's very good. Not a huge Camel fan as it's too mellow and sometimes bland for me--but I get they are very good.
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
I don't quite understand why any musician needs to be compared to another.
The man is a brilliant guitarist, a fine vocalist, and a wonderful composer. His flute work is quite good and he does a fairly good job on keyboards.
If we need to compare him to someone, I did once see a guy in an elevator in Phoenix that looked a bit like him.
Latimer proves the adage that instrumentalists should not be paid by the note.
Absolutely love Andy Latimer! Been a Camel fan since forever really and must say that Andy is my favourite guitarplayer and performer ever. Just found a copy from their premier show of 2015, at St. Albans arena, and the way he played Ice... Blew me into the smallest, little and most emotional pieces really.. Andy IS the very soul and the emotion.. Must say that he's a terriffic composer as well.. Dust and Dreams is truly a masterpiece!!!l
