If you like Jon, you will probably like this album. It definitely grows on you, however, it is not Yes. Just as APB is not Yes. I've reluctantly come to my own conclusion that "MY Yes" is over and gone. If I want to hear "MY Yes", I need to go back and pull out the albums I grew up with, which I do. and it works for me. I gotta tell you, it took a long time for this realization to hit home, but I got it now and I'm satisfied with it. I picked up a cassette of Topographic for 10 cents at a yard sale, and I can't tell you how awesome this sounds on my boombox that I use while working in the yard. No doubt about it, that's YES.
There is a thread on here about the concert at JFK in 1976, being critical about this or that, but.............I was there, and anybody can say anything they want about really, anything they want, nothing in MY world ever topped those life changing experiences for me, with YES, right on through from 1972, right up to and including the Union concert, and even beyond. They say you can never go home again, and I think everybody has their own feelings and memories and nothing in my life will ever change the feelings I had back in the day,(as they say) with Yes.
Ok, I'm starting to ramble a bit, and it takes me so long to type, that I'm getting exhausted. Bottom line is this, I like Inventioning, alot! I like APB, alot! I am not so much into H+E, I like Jon. I'm really looking foreword to ARW. End of rant, have at it.
^ Hey, Yes could easily have ceased to record decades ago, so at least you've got that bunch of albums to continue to enjoy. I don't think you're going to get many arguments here from saying their 70s albums are their best.
I'm still just blown away at how much I like this album.
"It was a cruel song, but fair."-Roger Waters
Every time people rave about something on here I got excited and went out to buy it and then became disappointed. So I'm not having any expectations about this when or even if I buy it.

Listening now for the first time. Plenty of low end, but only when appropriate to the music. With something like this with so many layers there's no way to have all the instruments maxed out volume-wise as it would be a cluttered mess. Also being judicious with bass levels allows for dynamics to rise and fall. Anderson doesn't seem too loud to me. I'm reminded of Heart Of The Sunrise where Anderson's voice dominates near the end of the tune. But it's not a fair comparison because there is far less going on in the HotS mix, nowhere near the amount of layering, and the bass track, while much more up front and punchy than most of what we hear on the A/S album, doesn't have much information that extends down into the same octave as Invention of Knowledge does at times. Balancing this many layers of stuff was probably pretty difficult in comparison. Cranking this up on my studio monitors with subwoofer sounds pretty amazing.

wait a minute, nobody posted Jon's promo videos yet! let's get that fixed right now:
Hi there Peeps...here is a minute of the intro song for Invention, if this works I'll send some more, so excited for you guys to hear the whole album, it really is cool to hear it for me in the car driving around, me and Roine did the album for over a year, when we weren't on tour, so it was always fresh to get back to it..and I didn't hear the whole album till early this year, it still sound very 'new' to me..so much good music from Roine, anyways, enough of me , here is the link..
fingers crossed...
have fun...love and 'light'..jon
Hi again peeps everywhere, this is the end section on 'Invention', it will give you an idea of the music and wonderful choral energy Roine created with his friends in Sweden, around songs that I wrote with friends on the Internet over the years, so much music coming through, it's really a very special time for me, ...have fun, much love and 'light'..Janee loves this work soooo much....she's playing it now, weeeeeeee
I jumped on the Laser's Edge 2LP/1CD deal that popped up a couple days ago. I love Silas Toball's artwork so even though I don't currently have a turntable I thought it would be cool to have. I was shocked when it turned up in the mail this morning. So I was listening to the CD...or technically to the ripped version in AAC format.

I think it's enshrined in law that he will always mention 'Janeee' and 'peeps'. Might as well have thrown in the Divine Mother Audrey as well. Weeeeee!
crap - another day and still hasn't arrived. But my unauthorized Invention of Knowledge T-Shirt DID show up today - -Won't I be the coolest guy around wearing this! So my shirt arrived from China before the CD from Sweden.
Since a lot of people have the album now, has anyone posted what the writing credits read like? Are other friends from the internet credited on this?

Listened for the first time tonight. Extremely enjoyable, this will grow into a modern classic. Jon sounds just great, Stolt is sheer class on guitar, and I really enjoyed Brodin and Reingold's contributions.
While i still stand by this being the best thing to come out of the Yes camp in years, there are points in this where it gets unfocused...taken out of context (if these tracks come on randomly) it's pretty head-scratching too.
JA looks like Jane Lynch with a beard.
I can't wait to listen but not impressed with what I am hearing----so far sounds like typical late in life rambling JA---not a lot of nuance.
