    I saw 'em in '77, '78, '86.

July 12, 1977 my friend blew through an unfamiliar intersection that should have had a stop sign but didn't, and drove right into an oncoming bus. None of us were hurt, but he didn't feel like going after totaling his car, so I brought my 12 year old brother.

Greg Lake hasn't issued a statement about Keith Emerson.
What's going on with ELP? soon only Carl Palmer will be left.
Does anybody know why has Lake disappeared from the face of the earth recently?

This is definitely not a hoax unfortunately. I heard it mentioned earlier on the radio. My brother texted it to me but then later heard the sad news for myself. RIP Keith.

I was fortunate enough to see him twice(once by himself with his own band and once with Greg Lake). Unfortunately I never got to see ELP(or the Nice for that matter).

Did Emerson ever use a mellotron?

The world owes Keith Emerson a huge debt ... my fascination with synths and keyboard players meant that I didn't try to learn to play a guitar in 1978 ... one less wailing, over the top guitar soloist ... the world is a better place for that.

Seriously, another hero and musical influence gone. A real innovator. Thanks Keith, and maybe you'll get to play with Hendrix and Squire after all. If you're looking for a drummer may I recommend a Mr. B. Rich?

    God speed.

Thanks for the music, Keith and rest in musical peace.

ELP were quite an issue in my early teens, especially at high school, because they were one of the first to fuse classical music with rock on their Pictures At An Exhibition.
The music-teacher couldn't get enough of comparing the original (Ravel arranged) Mousorski with this live recording.
So it wasn't a surprise that this became the first album I actually bought. June 25 1975, I remember it as if it were yesterday.
For some strange reason I only bought Tarkus, maybe because I was missing a guitar, but still the influence stayed.

This is absolutely devastating news. He was the one who got me into all of this. Thanks for everything, Keith.

Crapola, just heard the sad news. Keith my hero and inspiration to get better on keys. Playing any of his music took WORK.

My only regret is that the ELP music itself sounds so of its time. As good as it was it doesn't have that timeless quality that some music retains from age to age.

A few weeks after I met my (now) wife in '77, I took her to see ELP with full orchestra at the Garden (MSG) and Keith's music has been an integral part of the soundtrack of our lives for almost forty years. RIP Keith.

I'm sorry to hear it was suicide. This is the whole problem. The guy could compose.....why didn't he just realize that and go on doing that.....you just need a computer and an intern these days like Phillip Glass uses.

It's TMZ, don't believe what they say.

UPDATE: Sigh, but apparently it's true. How depressing.

Unfortunately, TMZ very often gets these kinds of stories right.

Billboard is also reporting that his death is being investigated as a suicide: http://www.billboard.com/articles/ne...on-lake-palmer
