Thread: Bands that made only one album but you wish they had recorded more!

    What?!

    No mention of Hermann Szobel?

    R-1591613-1311124421.jpeg.jpg

Moved from Vienna to NY at the age of 18. Claimed he was going to take over the jazz world, or something equally arrogant.

Recorded this one amazing, Zappa influenced fusion album, that got nothing but great reviews.

Disappeared soon after. Only to turn up 3+ decades later in Israel, living on the street.
And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell

There is a band Ernie Denov is in from around Chicago with Howard Levy from Bella Fleck. I forget the name, kind of like a Latin fusion sound if I remember right.

    Just remembered Chicago de Chevre

I found it when I was checking out the Janus - Gravedigger album on Youtube which was mentioned in another thread,
and this album popped up on the side.

Well, there's a surprise. Thanks for the heads up.

A few that come to mind for me:
    Gash
    Cornucopia
    Weidorje
Quiet Sun (though we're probably lucky to even have the one album)
    David + David

I would include Ned Lagin here, but he just released a new album last year, I believe, so I suppose he's exempt from consideration.

If you liked the United States of America album, The American Metaphysical Circus (credited to Joe Byrd and the Field Hippies) is its spiritual successor. Apart from Byrd, not the same lineup, and not as good of course, but it’s similar in style and has its moments.

Gobs of good ones so far...didn't see Good God, A.F.T. (Automatic Fine Tuning), Otolithen, Octavo, Broken Wire, LowBlow (ex Tipographica bassist...afaik they only released Mr. Cafe) or The Bang, (I think Ominomo was their only release).

Mingo Lewis only recorded the scorching Flight Never Ending... woulda loved to have a follow up
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

GENESiS with ray wilson. that would have set many a record straight.

re: KiNO … they did record a second album under that name, last year’s “radio voltaire”; however, the differences btw. KiNO themselves, the new iT BiTES and LONELY ROBOT – which are all very much propelled by john mitchell’s artistic vision – are negligible. as more and more bands become project oriented the singularity of the “sole album” can become lost because guises and (artistic) entities morph and move around easier.

One of my favorites from the realms of dark Nordic prog...via Italian Horror Soundtracks.

Day dawns dark...it now numbers infinity.

Now that's a list I can get behind, the Pikapika Teart is one of my favorite albums of the last decade.

Sadly, none of my submissions from three years ago have been among them. :/
