    Is it just me...or...

Does anyone else like to eat bacon raw straight out of the packet?

Technically, only some bacon is truly raw because in many cases it has already been smoked and pre-cooked. But it is the truly raw, unsmoked, non-pre-cooked bacon I am talking about.

    Am I or amn't I a freak?

I just love the taste and the raw consistency of it.

    Do I need help?

Well, keep in mind that what they call "bacon" over there is a bit different from American bacon, which they call "Streaky Bacon." Basically, back bacon as opposed to our belly bacon.

His hardening arteries won't know the difference. On the bright side, one more angioplasty and he fills up his card. The next one is free!

So if we run out of bacon we can just eat you. I'd like to have eggs and Peter or a PLT. Don't get too close to our grill at Progday.

Careful with that, Vic. They're "cooked," but not really "ready-to-eat."

Thanks guys! I needed that humour boost

SL, no I do mean streaky bacon (American) not back bacon, which really isn't bacon at all but gammon. The UK & Ireland are the only countries I've been too where they call bacon cutlets and gammon "bacon"

As for Canadian bacon that is simply a type of ham isn't it?

    Same concept as sushi.

    Never tried it though.

My dog only eats raw meat, bowels etc.

    is it just me...or...

Trichinosis, trichinellosis or trichiniasis is a parasitic disease caused by roundworms of the genus Trichinella. Several subspecies cause human disease, but T. spiralis is the most known.Infection may occur without symptoms, while intestinal invasion can cause diarrhea, abdominal pain or vomiting.Larval migration into muscle tissue (one week after being infected) can cause edema of the face or around the eyes, conjunctivitis, fever, muscle pains, splinter hemorrhages, rashes, and peripheral eosinophilia.Life-threatening cases can result in myocarditis, central nervous system involvement, and pneumonitis.Larval encystment in the muscles causes pain and weakness, followed by slow progression of symptoms.

True. I can't stand American bacon when compared with Brit bacon.

No - it's processed pork smoked and sliced to look like bacon. I won't eat it.

If you want to try something a little different on your BLT replace the bacon with a slice or two of fried Provolone cheese. Toss it into a non-stick frying pan and cook until a light crispy brown. When the tomatoes start coming out in the garden I can eat 3 or 4 of these at a time.

Canadian bacon looks nothing like "regular" bacon.

    It's still pig-meat, isn't it?

This thread is even more comical than all those "is it prog?" discussions.

eerrrr......I think that IS the definition of ham isn't it?....not 100% sure though

Anyway, a few weeks ago I was watching that programme United States of Bacon, and he called Canadian bacon ham, and to me it looked like ham not bacon.

Where I live, any cold smoked pork in slices like this is called ham.

And this is Christmas ham, which we eat every year
