The Vince Taylor and the Playboys original. One of the truly great pre-Beatles rock tracks. I tend to find the production on UK rock 'n' roll songs rather polite compared to the US ones, but there's nothing lacking in the song.
He didn't release much here but I gather Taylor went on to become a cult figure in France...he also had something of a Syd Barrett-style meltdown, alas, and was a key, acknowledged inspiration for David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust persona.

1. Purple Helmets (punkabilly alter ego of The Stranglers)
2. The Clash
3. Stray Cats
4. And if you want a heavy, swampy, sweaty, version you need look no further than Rory Storm and The Hurricanes.
Here they are live in about 1960, in their home town of Liverpool. Ringo played drums with them before joining some smaller group of wannabees....

And here's a couple of great hellbilly versions

And on the subject of Hellbilly, here is God's grandson with one of his great songs. It isn't BNC, but it has the same kind of intro and the same incessant, pounding attack.
