    RIP Piotr Grudzinski of Riverside

    Just got this on Facebook:

"In our deepest pain and disbelief we would like to inform you that our dearest friend and brother Piotr Grudzinski has passed away this morning. We kindly ask you to respect the privacy of his family and friends."

    Shocking...

They're not saying more at the moment. It's definitely unexpected: they posted a picture a few days ago and he looked fine. They were about to embark on a polish tour and apparently had other plans for this year.

He was only 40! WTF happened?

Over the last several years I've talked & had a beverage or 2 with Piotr G. (At Baja, Montreal & also PA) and I always liked to listen to his Polish death metal band stories.

This certainly changes the picture for RoSFest's Saturday night headliner.

    Man, this bums me out.

Apparently he attended last night's Winery Dogs gig in Warsaw, so it's got to be something very sudden and unexpected.

Wow. I enjoyed Riverside when I saw them at Rosfest a few years ago and was looking forward to seeing them again. I hope they are able to get a last minute replacement.

    RIP

    That is truly horrible. RIP.

I remember Riverside's first set at PN14 began with a bunch of technical problems. The rest of the band were understandably irritated, but Piotr just waited patiently with a small grin on his face, as if he was just happy to be there.

What tragic news. At such a young age makes this especially sad. Another fantastic musician has left us far too soon.
RIP Piotr and sincerest condolences to family and friends.

Well that's a bummer. May he rest in peace.

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear this. What a great player. He could really hold a note and make it breathe, a very moving style of playing, which gave Riverside a great deal of soul and power. What a huge loss. Best to his family and to the band.

They are a bit on the heavy side but not really prog metal imo. I would say they are sort of a cross between Pink Floyd and later Porcupine Tree and maybe Rush(circa Moving Pictures). They are without a doubt one of the biggest bands in prog these days.

Devasting news for the Prog world. A fantastic guitarist and a gentle soul.
