Tangerine Dream did the music for the film. The filmmakers then gave some of this music to Anderson and got him to add vocals in order to have a "song", without the knowledge of or permission from Tangerine Dream, who were a bit miffed when they found out.

No kidding! I am familiar with Elven Lands, but had no idea it was actually submitted to Peter Jackson before hand!

Bits of it. Just the songs Anderson is on, AFAIK.

Wow Henry, you're very knowledgable! Anyhow, found some more links with TV music (instrumental) by Sean McKee:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLtM3g9ggus

I also found this old Myspace page with songs from McKee. All instrumental, kinda like Steve Vai (in fact on photo page is him with Vai, Anderson, Ringo Starr, Ike Willis from Zappa). I Most enjoyed "In The Sky Tonight", very polished, soaring and beautiful guitar solo:

Found this TV interview from 2010 with McKee, apparently he created tech to restore films for movie studios (original Planet of The Apes is shown) and was involved in the Tupac Shakur hologram:

Finally, I came across this magazine interview with McKee and others talking about 2D to 3D conversion tech he created for concerts and movies:

With all this guy seems to do, he reminds me of Brian May from Queen, who is also some kind of professor of 3D technology.

Brian May has a PhD in Astrophysics.

    Jon teaches at Universe University.

Apparently the nature of the thesis including that no one else was working in his narrow area (as most are) meant that he could put it aside for 30 years and finish it up after taking a much needed break to make a few records and tour the around the world with his friends a few times.

He also got special permission from the university. As a departmental graduate tutor (research), I do not advise this as an approach others should follow.

I was kidding about Brian May being a 3D professor, but he is involved in 3D work:

It is now being mixed with the help of college students as part of a Columbia College Chicago project. This new article talks about that, and points out that the album " has no set release date" but will include "a number of high-profile guest artists".

^^^ Beneath that cosmic exterior, Jon is really quite a shrewd operator isn't he? Hey students, mix my album for free. Get course credit!

^ As a university lecturer, I think that could be a valuable and interesting course. As a Jon Anderson fan... oh, for heavens' sake.

I think it's absurd that he is being referred to as "Grammy award-winning" in that article. He is not on nor did he write "Cinema". Yeah, technically since the award went to the band he was in at the time, he is "Grammy award-winning" - but clearly that is not something he is known for.

    True!

He does have 5 Grammy nominations of things he was actually on: 90125, Big Generator, St. Elmo's Fire, "9012Live" and "Owner of a Lonely Heart".

That is hilarious! When it's something too big to put in a bag like a guitar, he signs it, and if security asks, he says it's got my name on it. ;-)

I'm so happy he pulled out the lyric sheet and not his grocerylist. Just imagine the lyrics if that had been the case. ;-)

You don't appreciate his singing on it?
