    Rest in peace, Jimmy.

VINNY APPICE Says People Who 'Confirmed' JIMMY BAIN's Death On Internet Had No Business Doing So

Former DIO and BLACK SABBATH drummer Vinny Appice has voiced his displeasure over the fact that his LAST IN LINE bandmate Jimmy Bain's death was "confirmed" via social media before the group had a chance to break the news to Bain's family.

Bain died over the weekend at the age of 68. He passed away while the DIO offshoot band LAST IN LINE was taking part in DEF LEPPARD's "Hysteria On The High Seas" cruise. No cause of death has been revealed, although it has been reported that he was ill for some time.

Bain's passing was first reported Saturday night (January 23) on Facebook and Instagram by ex-DIO drummer Simon Wright and Diana Deville, a longtime employee of Wendy Dio's Niji Management.

Writing on his Facebook page, Vinny said: "Yes, it's true our brother Jimmy Bain has passed and we are very sad about the news and in shock. We, the band, are also saddened that the news leaked out before we were able to contact Jimmy's family. Within an hour and a half, it was all over the Internet and confirmed by people that have no business confirming anything about this and not knowing the facts of the situation. We apologize to Jimmy's family and Jimmy's memory about this nonsense that seems to prevail on the Internet to be the first one to post something and attach themselves to a tragedy like the loss of our brother Jimmy."

Bain, along with Appice and guitarist Vivian Campbell, was part of the original DIO lineup, which reunited in 2012 alongside singer Andrew Freeman to form LAST IN LINE.

Bain had battled addiction issues throughout his life and has been to rehab on several occasions. In 2012 he was arrested for driving while drunk. He was also cited for possession of Vicodin pills without a valid prescription.

Jimmy Bain got his start in The Embers, and was also in a later line-up of legendary Scot heavy proggers Writing on the Wall. He can be heard on the posthumous collection Burghley Road. Bain also for a time was dating Lori Maddox, Jimmy Page's teenage groupie, after she split with Page. RIP Jimmy

Not sure If I saw him on bass when Blackmores Rainbow played the Tower theatre in 1978 during the long live rock and roll tour but Dio and Cozy were awsome and of course Blackmore was to my 16 year old ears the greatest guitar player ever....

Cheap Trick opened for them and they were not well known at that time but apparently they got huge not long after seeing them.

if anyone knows who was the bass player during that show I am curious if it was Jimmy or not.....

Most likely the bass player was Bob Daisley at the show you saw.

Yep Daisley. And David Stone on keyboards. Bain & Tony Carey were sacked about the same time in '77 I believe.

Bain was, but I believe Carey left of his own accord.

Last In Line - The band Bain was in when he died (featuring all of the original members of Dio, except for Dio) have released the video from their soon to be released album. I think it is pretty damn good. Jimmy looks pretty rough compared to the other guys though.

Cause Of Death Revealed For Former RAINBOW/DIO Bassist JIMMY BAIN

The surviving members of LAST IN LINE have released a statement saying that the official cause of death of their bassist, Jimmy Bain, is lung cancer.

Bain died on January 23 aboard DEF LEPPARD's inaugural "Hysteria On The High Seas" cruise. He was 68 years old.

Bain, along with drummer Vinny Appice and guitarist Vivian Campbell, was part of the original DIO lineup, which reunited in 2012 alongside singer Andrew Freeman to form LAST IN LINE.

Said Vinny: "Jimmy didn't know he had lung cancer, but he did know he had pneumonia and was receiving treatment for it. This didn't stop him or slow him down.

"We had four rehearsals four hours a day, then a flight to Miami for the DEF LEPPARD rock cruise. A pre-sail gig and soundcheck was scheduled for the following day. At the gig, Jimmy played great and even sang that night while holding a heavy bass guitar on his back, never complaining or asking for help. Next day, we preceded to board the cruise ship for a five-day voyage of which we were scheduled to play Sunday, the fourth day. That gig never happened, as Jimmy passed away in his cabin the night before. We were devastated.

"Jimmy was a trooper. He gave his all to the band he loved, the music he loved and the fans. He didn't want to let anyone down.

"I don't know anyone that would have attempted this schedule while being this sick and not feeling well. A trooper.

"He was so happy and proud of the new album we recorded. It so unfortunate and sad he didn't live to see it released.

"We were all looking forward to being on the road and playing together again. There was such a magic between us.

"Our prayers go out to his family and so many friends and fans who will miss the amazing person that was Jimmy Bain."

LAST IN LINE's debut album, "Heavy Crown", will be released on February 19 via Frontiers Music Srl. The CD was recorded at a Southern California studio with producer Jeff Pilson, a veteran bassist who has played with DIO, FOREIGNER, DOKKEN and T&N, among others.

Born in Scotland on December 19, 1947, Bain joined RAINBOW in time to appear on the band's second album, 1976's "Rising". He was fired a year later and went on to guest with THIN LIZZY and work in THIN LIZZY frontman Phil Lynott's solo band, before forming WILD HORSES with ex-THIN LIZZY guitarist Brian Robertson. He appeared on Gary Moore's 1983 album "Dirty Fingers" before joining DIO and playing on seven DIO albums with vocalist Ronnie James Dio, from 1983 debut "Holy Diver" to 2002's "Killing The Dragon".

Didn't know this but was wearing a Rainbow Rising shirt this evening at the Anthrax show. Funny the timing with Anthrax playing their tribute song to Dio and Dimebag.

All the best to his friends and family.
