Thread: Snownado 2016

  1. #51
I just took a second job doing snow removal. I've only worked one shift thus far (from 11pm-9am). It took a few of us that long to clear a couple of inches from half a dozen locations. If we (southern WI) get the 18-24" we're expecting this Tuesday, God only knows how long it'll take.

The timing of this storm was what had me laughing. 2 days prior to the movers picking up our stuff to move from NJ to GA. Happy to be enjoying much better weather now, clear skies with temperatures getting up to 66 today.

Welcome to the club!! My first bit of helpful advice is make sure you have access to coffee, a working stereo, loads of music to sink into and a small pillow for your lower back.

Oddly enough, all of the 16 or so inches we got here will probably be melted by the end of this week...in February!

We got over 2 feet and it's only about 8 inches deep right now in my front yard and with warm weather and rain on the way this week we may only see some piles by the end of the week.

Yeah...winter still has a ways to go, but this has been incredibly mild. At least here in lower NY. Feb. is usually the month where we get a deep freeze and nothing melts until March. We may see close to 60 this first week of Feb! I'm real curious as to how the month plays out.

I put a bunch of my snow removal stuff back into the shed, so we'll probably start getting a lot of snow.

    You're a Snowbird!

NYVSteve, it's supposed to go down to 1 deg in NYC Saturday night, and -3 deg in our part of Westchester. We rarely see below zero.

RE the Bomb Cyclone, I'm sure the people who do the graphics for the news loved coming up with special "Bomb Cyclone Central" logos for the extensive coverage. LOL. It's a Bomb Cyclone - there's never been one before!

They should dress Al Roker up in a Superman costume and have him report from the Ground Zero of the Bomb Cyclone.

Sad state of affairs here in NoVa.
Maybe 1/2" of light snow 21 degrees.
    Main roads clear.
Schools closed, government 2 hour late opening.
I get that out in the country it is perhaps worse, but seriously.

These are the weeks where Jim Cantore is like a rock star, running around in expensive snow suits and salivating at the prospect of uttering "thunder snow" a few hundred times.

Imagine....people used to have no idea what was coming when the first snowflakes began to fall. A big problem if you're heading up through mountains on a horse-drawn wagon (Donner Party). It's not quite the same today.

We were in Arctic temperatures from Christmas Eve through Tuesday. I mean wind chills getting as low as minus fifty which tends to take the breath right out of your lungs when you're in it. I had my gloves off once throwing groceries into the Family Truckster and damn near got frostbite. At least we didn't get the snow you guys are going to get. Of course, last Christmas we got over two feet of the shit with high winds. That sucked. So my sympathies to all you East Coast folks. Stock up, stay inside, keep your pets and kids safe, and play lots of music.

Meanwhile, driving home from work in Downtown Phoenix on Friday, I had to turn on the A/C because it was hot inside my car. Only for a few minutes until it cooled off, then the rest of the trip without the A/C.
