I'll wait for your reviews. I'm skeptical that they can capture lightning in a bottle 45 years later. However, maybe it will genuine and true. It would be truly awesome if it were.

Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world.
I agree, but will most likely make my own review of the album rather than take other peoples view because you know there will be the negative reviews no matter how good or bad it is. The one thing that I never care for is todays in-your-face production. Let the music breathe instead of trying to pound it into my head with a sledge hammer.
Just a quick and short reminder of Santana III

Vic, try listyening to Shapeshifter.... It's the best thing he's done since Moonflower....
This can only be better.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
I'll probably get it the first week it's released. It's just that we've all been burned a few times anytime an old classic, band records a new album and it's hailed as "a return to form" and it's anything but a return to form. There's no way it can be compared to the first 3 Santana albums. Just not possible. It doesn't mean it can't be good. Even if all they do is imitate themselves, if the songs are good it's still good. The only other thing that makes me a little gun shy "16 all new tracks." I'm guessing 4-6 tracks are probably bonus tracks. 16 tracks sounds like a lot even by CD standards. Would love to hear on this album are some instrumental jams. I hope it's not just all song-driven. And I hope some of the tracks are longer than 5-6 minutes.
BTW, a few years ago I remember that there was a band called Abraxas Pool, which was the Santana Band without Carlos. It was supposed to be this return to form Santana sound. I think I played a couple tracks on youtube, and it did nothing for me. This is why you just can't compare a modern recording with something that was done half a century ago.
I know I'll buy it right away myself. Santana was one of my favorites growing up. I loved the first 7 albums to death. Played the vinyl until the needle went through the other side of the record. 16 songs sounds like a full 70+ minutes of music. I'm not sure why artists feel compelled today to fill up the CD with music. Sometimes it makes for overkill and throw away tracks.
Well, I'm sure there will be reviews all over the web before the album is officially released. You know there are promotional copies floating around, and it's just a matter of time before it's on youtube (at least a couple tracks anyway). I'm more interested in reviews here that are spontaneous and not "composed" like in a magazine.
The sound quality is not due to youtube, the upload quality is up to the artist not youtube. Also youtube is better now because they filter all tracks to be levelled so you don't get awful escalation in sound volume between tracks/bands., like radio has been doing for a while now.
Yeah I understand that. It's just that even the best quality youtube video is bad sounding to me. I come from the era where music was recorded on analogue tape and it's what sounds right to me. Vinyl records and analogue recordings sound comfortable to my ears and all this digital age of mp3's and brickwalling production either sounds like music through a tin can or music being pounded into my ears. I guess it's just my age.
It's a nice idea and great to see Shrieve in particular recording with Santana again...but I'm not holding my breath that this will be anything too special.
If you like Santana and ever come across this cd buy it: http://www.amazon.com/Abraxas-Pool/d...s=abraxas+pool
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF STUPID PEOPLE IN LARGE GROUPS!
I was never convinced by this album. OK, I discovered it some 8 years after its release , but it never struck really a chord with me.
My fave Santana instrumental track is the whole of Caravanserai (yeah, cheating a bit about the three minutes when there is some sionging)

Song of the Wind from Caravanseria is great. Hell their all great.
Can't wait to buy it and see them on tour. No reservations!
Listening to Santana III. My favorite Santana album, hands down. This album is sick. Even the cover art is sick.
