Hey man - have you ever heard the Virgin Charisma UK? Its pretty unbelievable and makes the '94 DE and 2008 irrelevant. I know what you are saying about the drum sound on NC but the drums actually resonate and don't sound like old metal potato chip containers on that UK pressing. I can't recommend it highly enough.

    Best:
    1. W&W
    2. NC
    3. SEBtP
    4. Foxtrot
    5. TotT

Least: (I haven't heard CAS so please pardon me for not listing it first)
    01. IT - crap.
    02. We Can't Dance - very weak
    03. FGtR - good album but comparatively weak.
    04. Trespass - some great parts but some boring stretches as well.
    05. s/t - good album but lacks the brilliance of 70s Genesis.

Would I be right in guessing you are referring to Trespass?

That's a good album. My post was really just in jest, but I was a little shocked seeing Nursery Cryme.

I've noticed there seems to be two kinds of listeners here, when you start rating albums. There are those like me, who say "Wow, I love those songs, production could have been better, but great album." Then there are those who say "Terrible album - the drums are mixed too low, no real separation between the guitars and keyboards.... pity because they are good songs."

    1. A Trick of the Tail
    2. Wind and Wuthering
    3. Seconds Out
    4. Duke
    5. The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

    -1. Genesis (Shapes)
    -2. Abacab
    -3. Trespass
    -4. Calling All Stations
    -5. Live Over Europe

The best songs on Selling England and Foxtrot are all better on Seconds Out. I like Invisible Touch and We Can't Dance a lot, just not as much as the top 5. I don't know how anyone who likes Genesis' proggy stuff can not like "Fading Light" or "Domino".

Does it matter that this waste of time is what makes a life for you?

    Top:

    Foxtrot
    Lamb
    Selling
    Cryme
    Trick

    Bottom 5:

For me, but not for you, you can pick any 5 after Wuthering & I'm fine with that

    Top 5:
    Selling England By The Pound
    Wind And Wuthering
    Nursery Cryme
The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
    ...And Then There Were Three

    Bottom 5:
    Calling All Stations
    Genesis
    From Genesis To Revelation
    Invisible Touch
    Abacab

    Top:

    Nursery Cryme
    Calling All Stations
    Wind & Wuthering
    3 Sides Live
    Selling England

    Bottom:

    And Then There Were 3
    FGTR
    We Can't Dance
    Abacab
    Invisible Touch

  14. #114
    My top 5:

    Selling England by the Pound
    Trick of the Tales
    Nursery Crime
    Wind and Wuthering
    Duke

Worst: (although I considered that Genesis never made a bad album). Their pop albums are way much better than the mainstream music on the radio.

We can't dance (the less listened)
    Mama (close second less listened)
Abacab (has great moments): Me and Sarah Jane, Dodo/Lurker, Keep it Dark
    Calling All Stations
Invisible Touch (this too has great moments:

That leaves ATTT, Lamb and Foxtrot in the middle. If Lamb consists of one disc, it would be on my top five, but there are too many songs I dislike.

  15. #115
    Top 5:

    LLDOB
    SEBTP
    FOXTROT
    Nursery Cryme
    ToTT

    Bottom 5
    CAS
    DUKE
    ATTWT
    ABACAB
    FGTR

Not sure if I responded to this one yet

    Top five

    Foxtrot
    SEBTP
    A trick of the tail
    Wind and wuthering
    Nursery Cryme

    Bottom five

Abacab (but the best of this bunch)
    Genesis
    Invisible Touch
    We can't dance
Calling all stations (I still actually like it though)

Best Worst? Ummm.. I'd say the overall creativity waned after Duke.. with that said.. I forget who said it.. but creating a "hit" record is not as easy as you think.. so I'd give them props for pulling off the "pop" period as well as anyone else did at that time..

    I don't have any particular order of top-bottom 5.

I do know that 'And Then There Were Three' completely blew my young mind. It was the first Genesis album I had heard. It was way beyond any music I was aware of listening to, previously. The mix is murky, that's true, but the music is...

It kind of makes me sad when people put it in their bottom 5 Genesis. But, that's ok.

In retrospect, their sound was in transition. I get it when people prefer the Gabriel era. I was too scared to buy 'Genesis Live' for quite some time, due to the guy in the weird costume on the cover.

I have started to get used to people naming ATTWT as one of their least favourite, but I'll never understand it.

Avoiding buying albums that feature people in weird costumes on the cover is an excellent way of filtering out lots of really awful music, although you do get the occasional "false positive".

    Trespass
    Nursery Cryme
