Thread: Jeff Beck as a Sideman

Beck-Ola holds up incredibly to this day. And to hear Ronnie Wood burning on the bass? The whole band is raw, raucous and on fire.

I am grossly negligent in Jeff Beck's work as a sideman, but if it comes anywhere close to what he did on Waters' Amused To Death, then I have a lot of catching up to do. He is incredible on that album.

Just got the first two LP's from UPP on CD (the Japanese versions) and especially the first one is very original: prog-funk or something like that. Great keyboard-stuff from Andy (Andrew/Simon) Clark, also know for his work with BeBop Delux, David Bowie, Tears For Fears, Peter Gabriel, Zaine Griff, etc.
Jeff Beck is only credited for being the producer of the first one and one of the guitarists on the second one. But according to some sources he also played guitar on the first one.

https://www.discogs.com/artist/136170-UPP shows there are also a couple of compilation-albums and recordings as The Jeff Beck Band & UPP, playing most material of Andy Clark.

There's a lovely version of "Drown in My Own Tears" by Jools Holland featuring Jeff Beck and perhaps surprisingly Beck also plays on Morrisey's "Black Cloud" from the Years of Refusal album.

He did side work for Malcom Mclaren on Malcoms album "Waltz Darling" (an excellent album) alongside Bootsy collins on Bass... THe tracks were, "House of the Blue Danube" and "Call a wave".

Malcom McClaren and the Bootzilla Orchestra.... Waltz Darling.

In case you didn't know, the first two Upp albums are being released in a 2-CD package in a few weeks. Affordable price. https://www.amazon.com/Upp-This-Way-...1&keywords=upp

Nice. Didn't know it, but I'm not sad, because I didn't pay that much for the Japanese versions (€ 10 each).
Would be nice though if this re-release will contain a booklet with the story of the band, the way Esoteric and BGO Records do wonderfully.
