TORONTO -- The Toronto Maple Leafs are poised to buy out Mikhail Grabovski after putting the veteran forward on unconditional waivers Thursday.
The buyout will make Grabovski an unrestricted free agent as of Friday at noon ET.
The Leafs have already used their other non-compliance buyout on defenceman Mike Komisarek.
Grabovski, 29, had four years remaining on his $27.5-million contract, which he signed in March 2012.
Acquired in 2008 from Montreal, the Leafs had high hopes for Grabovski.
But he struggled this season, recording just nine goals and seven assists in 48 games.
"This was not an easy decision to make as Mikhail made numerous contributions to our hockey club," Leafs general manager Dave Nonis said in a statement. "This is a roster move that will give us salary cap flexibility moving forward."
The move will free up $5.5 million of cap space for the Leafs.
Boston and Dallas complete a seven player deal sending Seguin and Peverley to Dallas and Loui Eriksson to the Bruins...

Wow!
Does anybody think the Bruins gave up on Seguin too quickly? Sure, he had a below average playoffs, but he seemed to be a player on verge of great things.

General perception in Boston appears to be that Seguin regressed a bit this year, as indicated by some comments from Bruins execs. Personally I'm taking most performances in a 48 game schedule with a grain of salt--who knows how he would've performed if he had an entire season to play. Yes, I do think that Boston gave up on this guy too early, but they are getting a proven scorer in return. Eriksson is a helluva player that doesn't get a lot of attention because of where he's played. He's a real finisher entering what should be his peak years as a player. I think he'll thrive in Boston and may even be their leading scorer.
Personally I think this is a good deal for both teams.
Maybe Seguin is lacking that Bruins grittiness too. You gotta play like Neely to play for Neely!

Well, if a lack of grit was the issue with Seguin then there's no way they would replace him with Eriksson, who probably has even less grit. Talk of him being late for meetings, issues with coaches, and the fact that the B's are overloaded at center probably had more to do with the desire to ship him out than anything else.
Shawn Horcoff has been traded to Dallas. No definite report yet covers all the details but Philip Larsen is reportedly one of the players being sent from the Stars to Edmonton.

The word here is that Daniel Alfredsson will not resign with Ottawa. He may end up in Detroit. I am shocked.

Scuderi to Pittsburgh. Again, how the hell are they affording all these signings?
It's pretty funny watching the Free Agent Frenzy coverage. You can see in the background that, when they aren't on the air, all the analysts are frantically checking their phones and futzing with their tablets. All of them, that is, except for Mark Crawford, who simply stares off into space...
Stephen Weiss to Detroit
Valtteri Filppula to Tampa Bay

Ottawa just traded Jakob Silvferberg, Stefan Noesen and a first-rounder to Anaheim for Bobby Ryan. This is the move to which I was alluding in an earlier post. Didn't think it would happen today though.
Habs sitting on their hands per usual. They signed Briere. That's enough I guess.
Glad to see Ference leave our division. Always hated that player!
