Highly entertaining game between the Habs and a much improved Sabres team, last night. Including the OT there was a total of 85 shots on goal! Habs need to be more disciplined though. They took way too many stupid penalties.

Nice win from the Red Wings last night with many big plays from guys who were on the Calder Cup winning Grand Rapids Griffins last year. Detroit has a lot of young talent. This will continue to be a rebuilding year, but the future is looking pretty bright.
Having teams play on back to back nights to start the season just isn't fair IMO. Not saying that this was the sole reason for the result of both the Pens and Flyers games but I'm sure it didn't help. I mean, at least wait a week or two into the season prior to forcing teams into that situation.
Dude, I challenge you to spend any amount of time in southern ontario, as a Leaf fan. lol You think hockey just gos away when the Leafs suck? You are bombarded daily with Leaf jokes, (mainly from wanna-be funny guys, who wake up every morning just dying to rip the Leafs), the sports media spend 12 of 24 hours a day examining and ripping the team, and making sarcastic jokes. If people know you are a Leaf fan, they walk across the street to give you the latest Leaf joke they heard at the office, which usually has been recycled about 50 times. So really, forgive me if I'm not feeling sorry for you. lol
My only complaint is that the Oilers didn't get Matthews too. Can you imagine the great team they'd have with every single position player being a number one pick over all?

Say what you will about P.K. Subban on the ice, he's making great changes to the world off the ice.

There have been a bunch of millionaire athletes protesting the national anthem as of late across a number of sports in North America, but one athlete who made it clear he would*"never"*kneel may have just raised the bar for each and everyone of those athletes.*
Regardless of what side of the issue you may fall on, it's clear that the national anthem protests have achieved nothing but creating more division and now rather than protest the anthem, Nashville Predators superstar*P.K. Subban*will be working to bridge that divide.
From the Nashville Predators official announcement:
During every Nashville Predators home game this season, Subban will host his new P.K.'s Blueline Buddies program, bringing together a member of the Metro Nashville Police Department and their guest with a mentor or representative from a local organization and an underprivileged youth.
Subban takes care of the game tickets, dinner and meets with the group prior to and after the game to lift their spirits and give them a few hours to forget about everything on the outside.
Rather than using some kind of symbolic gesture or venting his frustration in the media, Subban is letting his actions speak for him. Much like when he made a massive commitment to the Children's Hospital in Montreal, Subban is setting a high bar for other professional athletes to aspire to.
"I think it's important for athletes to set a tone in a way that we're looking to build bridges," Subban said. "That doesn't take away from anybody's right to do what they want to do or how they want to exercise their rights as an American citizen, but I think it's really important for us to be role models in terms of building bridges and being a part of the solution to social issues and different things that go on in our community."
Regardless of what team you may cheer for, it's hard not respect a man who is using his influence to try and do good in the world.
...meanwhile...Rangers not lookin' to good! AV soft, speed style just aint gettin it done anymore. It's early of course, but me thinks a change may be necessary...

Rangers are not a good team right now. I had hoped the addition of Shattenkirk would help the power play, but instead, he has just been infected with the patented NYR overpassing disease. It's maddening to watch them try desperately for the perfect passing play instead of just going for the dirty goal. Also becoming frustrated with Vigneault's resistance to playing younger players in favor of the vets, and his quick hook after a mistake or bad play.

Those who are long time convicts here know of my obsessive disappointment with how the Isles are unfocused at the start of periods.
So......
76 seconds into the new year, Greiss leaves his net a la DiPietro (e.g. stupidly) and promptly hands the CBJ a goal. 76 fucking seconds.
If I had been Doug Weight I would have called a timeout right there 76 seconds into the season and said "WTF?!?! really??!" for 90 seconds straight. Just fucking scream at them.
I was... And broke my first cable box controller 76 seconds into the new year.
The fact that Doug E Weight had to address it again in pre game interview two games later after another early game brain fart is too much.

I hear ya. Funny about the remote...I've been there! I have a rolled up pair of socks that I duct taped into a solid ball and keep on my couch. In times of anger I take that thing and wail it into a wall of my choice. No damage done and there's enough weight in the ball to make some noise and satisfy my rage. This is absoulutely true...I'm shitting you not!

Number of times I've had apartment security called on me so far this season because I was getting too loud during games: only once, though this is the earliest that it's ever happened, which even the security officers acknowledged. Their words when I opened the door last Saturday night...

^^^^ Yep. its going to be bad.... on the bright side, reports say Bergevin has attended multiple Islander games the past few days...
Erik Karlsson returns tonight after missing the first 5. Ottawa swept the Western Canada road trip for the first time in their 25 year history. So far, so good after a brutal preseason.

I'm heading over tonight to see the Flyers play the Panthers. Should be fun to watch these fast kids play in person.
