    Some tech help please

Having a sort out yesterday I found some of my early 90s demos and completed tracks on cassette. My question is this, what's the best way to create digital files of them? Is there some kind of usb device I can plug into my analogue amp? Short of recording onto my android phone without cables, i dont know how to go about this.

I think you can get a long way with Audacity and a cassette player with cables that ends in a USB.
Audacity is free http://sourceforge.net/projects/audacity/ , and the cables you can get on line.

I'd like people here to hear some of the tracks, especially one called Space Insects in a French Cafe in Inverness from about 94 - Roland synth, Fostex 4 track.

Okay, I bought a Plexgear tape digitizer for about 40 euros and have recorded the first old demo tune from the early 90s onto my PC using the Audacity software. My next question now is how do I get that WAV file from my PC onto the internet? For example Facebook and PE.

You can set up a Soundcloud site that will host your song(s) for free. You might need to convert these WAV files (big) to smaller mp3's though . . .

If you do, probably best to choose a user name other than PeterG, otherwise people might assume it's a certain Prog god.

Naw. The Real Deal has no need for technological assistance...

Thanks guys. So a wav file is a lot bigger than mp3? Are there other file formats for music that you would recommend that are smaller?

Wav's can be 1- 20 times bigger - sounds better too, but you wont notice on the internet or a PC with plastic speakers.

With Audiograbber (free) you can easily make your wavefiles to mp3's
    http://www.audiograbber.org/download.html
    - point/open and convert, best result: mp3s over 192 kbps
If you want your efforts online, youtube is pretty simple.
If you have a google account (gmail) login on youtube and press upload (button). The tools to make your video could be Windows Moviemaker (goes with most PC's that have Vista or Seven or XP), again point at the mp3 file, point at the pictures to accompany the music and stretch the pictures to fit the lenght of the music.
The pictures can made or edited (like text) with something as simple as Paint (also standard on a windows PC).

Just ask if this doesnt make sense.
