Big fan - he was a helluva player. I think Calling Card was the best studio LP but there's plenty to love building up to that. The live albums are legendary.
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

Yeah, particularly Taste, whom I saw with Blind Faith the night of the moon landing. Saw Rory again in '74; I dug his first two or three solo LPs.

I have all RG studio albums. I'd recommend for a beginner to start with Deuce, his second album.

I am a Rory freak. Go to YT and watch the Rory Gallagher Beat Sessions. Then go back and get 'On The Boards' by his band Taste.

so far I have Deuce, Calling Card, Fresh Evidence, & the London Muddy Waters Sessions. I also have disc 1 of the '74 Irish Tour 7-disc set, which I don't know yet if I'm going to put the rest together or just buy it. Rory was G.R.E.A.T.

Live ! In Europe was a splendid lp.
And Rory certainly matched it in concert in 1973.
Great player & I heard a great bloke too with his fans

Calling Card, Against The Grain and Photo Finish are my favorites of his studio albums. Irish Tour is one of the all time great double live albums.

I've never got much from the studio stuff - like a lot of great blues players I think he shone live.

The Irish Tour deluxe set is a desert island disc.

Does it matter that this waste of time is what makes a life for you?

One thing with On The Boards, on some songs it has a jazz influence which he never really returned to again. That's a shame.

he probably experimented with it and didn't care to go further.

Taste (support from The Groundhogs) was the first concert I ever went to, late 1969. Been a big Rory fan ever since.

And it's a shame, because he (and the who group, for that matter) was very good - turned out to be a pretty damn fine alto saxophonist....
