    Prog Halloween compilations

Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. And to help celebrate it I've made my own CD compilations over the years. And as much as I still love the ancient Celtic holiday, as I've aged I am more low key and am usually at home on Oct. 31st. So I turn down the lights, light some candles, indulge in some spirits (the liquid kind!), and listen to some of these to get into the essence of the holiday. Here are a few I've made over the years. Each block will fit on one CD-R. Many of the tracks are older, but some are recent. I'd be interested in what other PE members like to listen to also to give me future ideas for similar compilation. There are some repeated tracks, but they work well within the block of tracks. Oh and please forgive the excessive mellotron, but to me the tron works so well with doom and gloom. Hope everyone has a ghoulishly Devil of a good time! Happy Halloween (Samhain).

If you are in Oz, the most appropriate song for Oct 31st is Taxman, by the Beatles.

She was gold alright, but then so is rust.

True, these tracks are basically from the dark side of prog, and IMO fit well with the spirit of Halloween. More mood music than direct Halloween references.

Yes, have always loved the fibs. When they were around in L.A. in the mid-eighties, they were called a new-wave band. But they were really a prog band in disguise. And I have a hunch that they influenced many later day prog bands, like Thinking Plague as an example.

This is quite possibly the BEST post i've seen all day. Time to start a new playlist ready for a long night of music and peace.

Thanks for the compliment. Oh yeah. Both UZ and P are onearlier compilations. All of the playlists ^^^^^ are more recent dark prog compilations, that I'v made, with no connections to Halloween. But again IMO they fit well with the occasion.

I usually bring the boom box down to the foyer and pick out something from these, Heresie, Nosferatu(Art Zoyd), Shub Niggurath, October Equus-S/t and whatever else is dark and eerie.

You might want to check out Anima Morte. I particularly like the song Premature Burial on Face the Sea of Darkness. I think it would fit well in your mix generally....the whole album is fantastic, btw.

You gotta find room in your heart for the Vanilla Fudge version of Season of the Witch. Halloweeniest thing ever.
