I haven't bought the Charly set but wondered if there is anything in it that explains why the versions of Flying Teapot's title track vary between the Charly release and the original Virgin vinyl release.

Further listening made me unsure these are different mixes
The Charley version's tonality sounds weird un natural
To be honest listening to the original vinyl you get the impression that technically its not as good as the later trilogy albums
this was Simon Heyworth's maiden voyage
Still I love this album !
'You' twice tonight.
Holy schnitt, this album is really, really, really, really, utterly, really fantastic. Love Pierre's drumming, such a groovy cat with a nice relaxed feel, so fuckin good. There is also a moment when Hillage is blowing and does this groove in seven - yes! This album is a masterpiece to my ears. Love it.
Yup, You is a stone cold classic

I blame Wynton, what was the question?
There are only 10 types of people in the World, those who understand binary and those that don't.
Can't stop listening to the trilogy back to back for the last couple of days
At gunpoint You is my fav album ever
You is stunning. I've always loved the way it starts off with a couple of short silly tracks of little consequence, before the 'invocation' leads us into all its swirling, ominous, captivating glory. And it just gets better from there. Love it!

YOU is beyond mere music....
It's definitely one of my all time faves. Such a great combination of whacked out and tight.
A Sprinkling of Clouds and the Invocations go beyond great music - state altering ,uplifting
since the day i first heard them (1.1.75) till this day the magic works !
I'm not all that up on Gong but I've been listening to a 2 CD set called Absolutely The Best of Gong while reading this thread. It was released in 2001 on the Fuel 2000 label. They say "Licensed from hitfile.com Aps. An Original BYG Recording" - "Released in cooperation with Varése Sarabande Records and UMVD". I would say the sound is so so. I would think there are better sources out there then what is on display here. Is there no new updates on the Universal box?
One night a few years back - we had this cranked - complete with fog machine, beers, other stuff, and some other other stuff. I'll never forget it. I literally felt like I was "in" this tune.
In a file on the Planet Gong forum, Jonny Greene, keeper of the Gong grail, wrote on May 9: ‘As for Universal, the ball seems to be currently in the long grass, no doubt it will be discovered shortly', referring to the planned Gong box set, which seems to have been overtaken by the Steve Hillage 22-CD set. The Hillage box will obviously contain Gong stuff (Greene wrote on June 1: ‘There are so many things [in the Hillage box set] that will surprise people that do exist and are included - my appreciation of Pierre Moerlen's drumming, already high, went higher on hearing some previously unheard studio sessions’) so I suspect the wait for the Universal set will be a long one. During the extended wait, and with the recent complimentary comments on You in mind, there is an absolutely amazing version of Master Builder on Gong in the Seventies. It goes under the name Om Riff, is seven minutes long and has both Daevid Allen and Tim Blake on it. There are, as far as I can tell, only two easily available live versions of this song with the ‘classic’ Gong line-up playing: a far-less powerful version on Gong Est Mort and this sizzler. Moerlen's drumming on it is spectacular, as is Hillage's solo.
Somehow, I can't get my head wrapped around a 22CD set...
"Always ready with the ray of sunshine"
I doubt I can get my wallet wrapped around it.

Great, looks like I may have to "sleep" with Charly after all, if I can find the box.
