Thread: Max Richter's "Sleep" - an 8-hour lullaby

Think it's too late for me to put out a recording of The Goldberg Variations playing very, very slowly as a MIDi file through a string patch?

I like the single disc, but it's highly derivative of work numerous electronic artists have been doing for decades - Robert Rich and Steve Roach in particular. The big classical labels (Deutsche Grammophon, in this case) tend to make grandiose claims for their discs and promote them as somehow ground-breaking when they simply aren't.

Does it matter that this waste of time is what makes a life for you?

A record label that misrepresents their products?

    I'm shocked ... shocked.

I'm always late to the party, but I get there in the end.

I've only just learned about Richter's work, but as soon as I heard the one-disc "from Sleep", I was hooked.

I've since gone on to buy several other of his works, but Sleep is the one I keep returning to, so it seemed inevitable that I'd eventually go all out on the full box set. And eight hours and spare change later, I thought I'd make the subject of a blog review.

So if any of you are not quite ready for supper, you're very welcome to drop in to my blog post, and see whether it was a case of golden slumbers, or the stuff of nightmares:

    Bah...amateurs all

That is, I believe, still the record for a recording. And of course, for live performance? Good goddamned luck topping this one:

I actually own Soulnessless but in all truth I have not tried to listen to the whole thing in one sitting. It is excellent background ambience.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:
