So, just to be clear, he isn't winning the award, as the thread title suggests - the award is being named after him, correct?
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally

Sounds like it's both: he's being recognized posthumously, and the award will subsequently carry his name.

I thought it was just the latter, it's being named after him.

Henry is correct. The award is being named after him. He's not receiving it.

And the first winner of the Chris Squire Virtuoso Award should go to... Rachel Flowers. If ever there was a good use of the word virtuoso (as well as prodigy), it is Rachel.

Chris Squire Lifetime Achievement Award is more appropriate I think.

Not that he isn't a virtuoso, but if Danny Thompson is associated with prog, shouldn't other folk-rock figures (especially Richard Thompson, and Maddy Prior) be represented as well?

Represented in what sense? Only one person can win the award at a time. Those figures get coverage in Prog magazine. Doesn't seem to me that they're not represented.
