Agreed: he's got plenty of finished material that could be released, although I've never been certain how close to completion the Anderson/Khoroshev project got. There are amazingly recordings that Anderson hasn't talked about that I'm told are awaiting release.
Some of the projects Anderson mentions do appear to be little more than ideas he had the morning before doing an interview. However, I think many have got further than that. While "Zamran" (which seems to incorporate "The Big If") remains unfinished, it appears a considerable chunk of material has been demo'd and even come close to release. Anderson has put two short "Zamran" pieces online. Anderson and Fritz Heede had completed an album, according to Heede, before Anderson decided to re-direct the material into "Zamran". Other collaborators have testified to significant demo work.

Didn't he at one point also form a gangsta' rap band which turned into a black metal act? I'm sure it was him.

"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
I was working on a couple tracks with him years ago but don't know what ever happened to that. Neither does he, probably.
In some cases, Anderson has sent the same selection of demos to multiple different online collaborators asking for their input (with no-one being paid!).

What about "Ursprung" Henry? Do you know if Jon has any interest in officially releasing the bootleg available on Youtube? Could there be a better sounding recording than that one?
I've not heard anything to suggest Anderson is planning to release or even knows about the re-discovery of "Ursprung". I'm not aware of any better recording existing, but it's impossible to rule out the possibility. I think it's a lovely piece and a significant moment in Anderson's development as a composer.

Ah. I think you're getting confused with an earlier confusion over whether there would be a live album and a studio album. There isn't: there's just a live album, there's just one album. But those who pre-ordered the DVD or vinyl version will be getting those, and the general release will include a CD+DVD option.

There was no confusion. Their Kickstarter page was quite clear that there would be a studio and a live album. Though maybe the trick was that they misspelled "recording": https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...t/posts/959474
I understand why people want to say there was "no confusion", so as to make clear where the blame lies for the fustercluck. However, that's a rhetorical approach, and there was a confusion in that different sources at different times were saying different things. The Kickstarter listing was a bit unclear initially. Interviews with the principals at the time just spoke of a live recording, which triggered questions from supporters, which seems to have been what prompted the Kickstarter page to make very clear that there was a studio and live release, which wasn't the case and does appear to have been the result of a breakdown in communication between the team running the Kickstarter and the band itself and their management.

Personally, I'd like to see "Open" be released on CD. Other than that, the Zamran project is what I'm most interested in.

No reason that it shouldn't be released, then.

That implies it had been all written, but not that it was all recorded properly. E.g.:
HenryWe're pretty sure that it's going to include a symphony orchestra; we don't know how many pieces yet. But, it will include a symphony orchestra, it will include a children's choir and a mixed choir, male/female choir. Compositions last sometimes for 20 minutes, sometimes for 12 minutes, it depends. But it's basically all one piece, and it sounds like a musical, pretty much. Like a Broadway play, only it's not because Jon participated in its writing so much...

That's from Time, his most recent solo album, that I've raved about repeatedly and at length.
Here's another video he did for the project:
Other pieces on the album are originals though.

Huh. I have that one, too. I'll have to revisit it.
Thanks!

I don't think he minds playing with orchestra---he did Symphonic Yes album---I mean touring Yes music with a great powerful band and have a light twist on it---both Howe and JA have played with powerful bands mostly from Europe. Howe did a live medley of Yes as a special guest-- with (I want to say Dream Theater or someone) and it sounded great. Maybe someone will know what group I'm talking about.
And Open needs Howe and a Yes take on it---JA needs Yes (a least classic lineup) to make his doodles of ideas work. To paraphrase Bill Bruford.
Howe did guest on a Yes medley with Dream Theater.
I think many musicians do better in collaboration and Anderson and Howe both benefited hugely from their former partnership and having the Yes context around them. However, maybe the best person to decide who Howe should work with is Howe...? And Howe doesn't want to work with Anderson. I'm not certain whether Anderson is more open to working with Howe, but he's currently choosing to work with Jean-Luc Ponty. So I think we can but hope that the partnerships they choose today are as successful as the ones of yesteryear.
