Yeah, production is disappointing, but I like Joe's return to some rockin' material. There are a few moments on the CD where I think he definitely has some riffs up his sleeve for a full blown James Gang reunion!

The Bomber is the tune that incorporates "cast your fate to the wind"?

Yes. Wasn't the version of The Bomber on the original vinyl edited?

In the past, besides "Walk Away" and "Funk 49", I was only familiar with the two Troiano albums, which I bought on a lark the day he died. In the last couple of years tho, I've amassed their whole catalog, and dig it greatly. Good Rock & Roll, almost all the way thru. It's nice when you get a chance to go back, and discover something that previously evaded the radar.

The original vinyl version of The Bomber included Guaraldi's Cast Your Fate To the Wind as well as Ravel's Bolero. Bolero was edited out on subsequent pressings but has since been restored on the remaster.

I really liked the first two albums, especially Rides Again, but lost interest in Thirds, when they tried to get all Sabbathy. Had they continued along the lines of The Bomber, I think they would have been great
I never heard the Troiano or Bolin LPs, but for their first two at least, the James Gang belong in the late 60s-early 70s Midwestern elite which also includes SRC, the Amboy Dukes, Frost, and the Terry Manning Band.

Saw them as a support band for the Steve Miller Band in late '69, don't recall the view, but they were pretty good, and I was not chemically enhanced.

You think Walk Away is "all Sabbathy"? I don't see the connection.

Detroit band active from 1966-72, released 3 albums. YouTube isa single of Hall of the Mountain King/Beck's Bolero. said to be one of Peter Gabriel's favorite American groups. I dug 'em.

Filter out Walsh's vocals and substitute Ozzy, and you're on Paranoid.

No, Paranoid is heavier than that song. The two songs don't even sound the same.

No, you're the one that needs a hearing aid if you think that Walk Away sounds like a song on Black Sabbath's Paranoid album.
