Don't know if that rock base of 70s psych/prog with over the top a ton of horns is prog or not..... but it is great !

Blue Effect is better known by its Czech name: Modry Efekt.
An interesting obscurity: Notice the portion of the guitar solo between about 4:00 and 5:30, where Radim Hladík chokes the strings and essentially plays his axe as a percussion instrument? Mirek from Uz Jsme Doma did/does exactly the same thing years later, in what I suspect is an intentional homage.
Their mutual album with Jazz Q is much better and far more interesting IMO
One of my fave Eastern European progressive bands.
Their "symphonic" rock phase - with three records between 1977-81 - remains some of the finest such music I EVER heard. Dramatic and passionate and sometimes unspeakably sombre (hey - this was 70s Czechoslowakia) - yet NEVER pompous or pretentious. And they sported Radim Hladik, progressive rock's definite equivalent to Peter Green.
I love them. Love them.

"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
There was a box set released a few years back with all their albums (including the one with Jazz Q) and a bonus cd of rare tracks. It was well worth the money that I spent
The album this comes from is a stone classic IMO
I only have 3 M-Efekt albums, so am not by any means an expert, but can't wait to check out the 9 CD box which contains the Jazz Q and the Jazz Orch. recordings.

Any time any one speaks to me about any musical project, the one absolute given is "it will not make big money". [tip of the hat to HK]
