IIRC, Fripp wanted to include a cover of that with Debbie Harry singing on Exposure but it was nixed by Chrysalis.

Apparently this Thread allows for both other people covering Bowie and Bowie covering other people's songs, right? If so, I think his cover of "Wild is the Wind" is excellent.

A friend of mine is a close friend of Johnny’s. I’ll have to ask him about that. But Nina’s version is still the definitive one for me.

This one, although I think it's better in the context of the Au Pairs' album than as a standalone track:

This is far and away the *best* Bowie cover ! (oops, wait a minute... he didn't write or sing it. Actually he had nothing to do with it !??).

Well, hell! If we’re going to go that route!

I mean, he’s even trying to look like Bowie!

I think the best "Bowie" song that isn't by Bowie is Be-Bop Deluxe's "Axe Victim." Total Ziggy Stardust pastiche.

We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973

This one just came on the radio - a surf-rock cover of Ziggy Stardust:

Did Barbra Streisand really cover Life on Mars? I have to hear that. It's like Celine Dion covering The Fat Lady of Limbourg. I forgot, Stve Hogarth does a good Life On Mars.

So anyone else like Fish's Five Years?
