    NY Rangers and PROG

Last night during the Rangers playoff game, the house organist was playing "FIRTH of FIFTH". In the past, I have heard "In the Court of the KK" and "Starship Trooper" on the house organ. Last night was a first for me, classic Genesis.

Amazing and I was wondering how many Hockey fans recognized Firth of Fifth (not too many I suppose).

A mate of mine was playing the house organ at the 1992 Olympics in Albertville for the ice hockey games. I occasionally switched on the TV (not otherwise being interested in the games) to hear him play in the background. On one occasion I did that and what do I hear but the opening theme melody for "Close To The Edge" ! That was obviously directed at me, but I've always wondered if anybody else noticed.

I heard it, and when my wife came home from our daughter's lacrosse game, I told her "I was just watching the Rangers/Caps game and the organist started playing..." and then I hummed a bit of it, and much to my surprise she said "That sounds like early Genesis. Firth of Fifth, isn't it?" I married the right woman.

While watching a NY Rangers game a couple of weeks ago I heard the organ play the break part of 21st CSM.

I work at night so I had to record this game. I was watching this in the small hours Friday morning. It slowly occurred to me what I was hearing and then I couldn't believe it so I had to rewind and listen again just to make sure I wasn't going nuts.

Very cool New York. Hang on to that keyboardist. It is good to learn here that this keyboardist rolls out some other proggy nuggets as well.
I doubt many at the game or on T.V. would know what they were listening to though. Prime era Genesis during Rangers / Caps? Wow!

On the sad side if you're a Rangers fan that was one tough way to end the game. Let's hope it is a great series.

And Sat, again with FoF.... I wonder if he is a member of the forum? (and the game turned out better too).

I was at the game Sat and was shocked to hear the ELP before the first period and FOF before the third. My 14 yr old son wasn't the least bit interested in the fact the Rangers organist was playing dads music. At the time I was wondering how many others in the 18K crowd had a clue.

Watching game 5 of the Rangers/Caps series, and just moments ago the organist played the break from 21st Century Schizoid Man again. Earlier he played a bit from the big build-up at the end of In A Gadda Da Vida. I think he's just doing it now to see if anyone comments about it here. :-)
