I got out my old comp CD from the car. Tracks are:

    Blackest Eyes
    Trains
    Lightbulb Sun
    Shesmovedon
    Hatesong
    Open Car
    The Sound of Muzak
    Gravity Eyelids
    Pure Narcotic
    Slave Called Shiver
    Arriving Somewhere But Not Here
    Even Less

Not a bad comp but not perfect by any means.

I put together this sample 1-disc back before 'The Incident' was released. I've burned copies of this for several people as an 'introduction' and gotten them hooked on P-Tree.

    Blackest Eyes
    Trains
    Waiting
    Lightbulb Sun
    Stars Die
    Drown With Me
    Shallow
    Lazarus
    The Sound of Muzak
    My Ashes
Last Chance to Evacuate Planet Earth (live Warszawa version)
    Arriving Somewhere But Not Here
    Dark Matter.

^^ That compilation is about as good a list as you could get within the confines of just one disc.

It's the nature of this band that that are like the blind men's elephant, as I think I remarked elsewhere on the board. The only compilation that would really do justice to their career would be a box set of 15 or so CDs including all their studio albums proper, plus Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape and Recordings, plus the live albums, plus a couple of discs worth of things issued on EPs and odds and sods like Meantime. And even then, you would get fans requesting the de luxe edition with 1500-page booklet and DVD film footage of the band cuddling a koala at the Brisbane zoo.

But just to play along, here's my "PT Mix Disk" (in order)...

    Nine Cats
    Synesthesia
    Bornlivedie/Signify (Coma Divine)
    Waiting Phase One
    Dark Matter
    Even Less
    Pure Narcotic
    Tinto Brass
    Blackest Eyes
    Gravity Eyelids
    Deadwing
    Stop Swimming

    Total time: 77 minutes

Guess everyone can see which period of PT I'm most fond of.

I'd just buy Deadwing myself, and maybe add Blackest Eyes as a bonus track

OK, I jammed as much of the favorites from this thread (minus the earliest of the albums because Stars Die does that) into two discs:

    Disc One:

    Blackest Eyes
    Trains
    Open Car
    Deadwing
    The Sound of Muzak
    Arriving Somewhere But Not Here
    Lightbulb Sun
    Gravity Eyelids
    Shesmovedon
    Dark Matter
    The Sleep of No Dreaming
    Lazarus

    Disc Two:

    Bornlivedie
    Signify
    Nil Recurring
    Stop Swimming
    Last Chance to Evacuate
    Buying New Soul
    Pure Narcotic
    Slave Called Shiver
    Russia on Ice
    Collapse the Light into Earth
    Deadwing
    Even Less

It's not perfect but it'll do for now. I might come up with some better segues than these.

A good introductory compilation for those new to PT. Heavy on the catchier tunes - but no Stupid Dream material?

I like the song Deadwing, but I don't think it's that good that it needs to appear twice in the one compilation!

Edit: damn, I got it now. I think I meant to put in "Hatesong" on the second disc. I moved that to the third slot and "Nil Recurring" to right before "Even Less". "Deadwing" remains on disc one. Whew.
