It’s a very creative work, but I do miss the gothic vibe and murk of the two preceding records on Foxtrot. IMO, the best track is Can-Utility, but that’s likely a minority opinion. (EDIT: Ah, Stacy agrees!)

"Dem Glücklichen legt auch der Hahn ein Ei."
I believe Can-Utility came 2nd in the listener's poll. A long way behind Supper's Ready, but no surprises there.
Foxtrot is one of the few albums in my collection that i don't think has any weak tracks at all.
I'm finally checking out the Foxtrot episode today. Great stuff as always, and I'm sure like many others, it even more appealing for me being that it is my favorite record from Genesis.
A couple of points I'd like to add:
-Get Em Out By Friday: The whole "Genetic Control" part especially and getting them out of their homes has always made me think of parts from the Terry Gilliam film "Brazil." I'm a little surprised nobody brought this up.
-Horizons: the opening tone and chords used, has always reminded me of the intro to the "Make A Wish" foundation commercials I distinctly remember seeing as a kid in the 80's and possibly 90's. I tried to find a link or video of it a few years back to compare it to Horizons, but failed to. Maybe it's on YouTube now, and wasn't a few years ago when I looked. But I always wondered if whoever wrote and performed the music for that Make A Wish commercial/psa, was a fan or maybe even lifted it from Horizons.
-Supper's Ready, at least parts of its premise/story/theme has always made me think of "Dr. Moreau's Island," with many of the lyrics referencing human experimentation. Even just a Fox-head with a dress, lol. And the cover art with the water and land (island).
I actually did a bit of a dissection to Foxtrot a couple of years ago where I recall mentioning a lot of this stuff among others:
http://allmediareviews.blogspot.com/...trot-1973.html
I do like Simon's point about a lot of Supper's Ready sounding latter-Beatles like. In fact I hear subtle Beatles moments in a lot of the Gabriel-Genesis. Namely from The White Album.
Re Horizons: I often used to listen to this album without bothering to check the track listing. To me the whole second half sounds like a unit, and I did not realise until later that Horizons is technically not part of Supper's Ready. For me it makes the perfect intro before the vocals start.
It's great reading your reactions to the music, and to the podcast. We really appreciate the feedback.

FYI, we'll be recording our ATTWT episode this weekend, along with commentary for a special episode that we hope to have out by the end of this month.
ATTWT episode will be released in March.
Not sure which album we'll cover after ATTWT, we'll discuss this Saturday over food, I'm sure!

We had a good Saturday of recording our ATTWT podcast, which will be out in March. We'll have a February episode out towards the end of the month.
We're getting together again in early March, to record at least one more episode (a solo album this time), and perhaps an additional episode. We'll keep on moving forward, we have a load of good ideas for episodes once we "run out" of albums to focus on...
Thanks for listening!

The episode I am most looking forward to is "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway". Frankly, I think you would need 4 or 5 episodes to do that album justice; there is so much there to discuss.
We've actually talked about how we'll handle the Lamb, and we already know we're going to need a minimum of two episodes to talk about it. While we also don't have a solid game plan for the order we'll handle the rest of the Genesis albums, I think we're all in agreement that we're going to tackle the Lamb last...

Voting is open at tabletopgenesis.com for your favorite track from Face Value, which will be the next album we cover when we get together to record.
We recorded our ATTWT episode a few weekends ago, and that should be out in March. There will be a special episode out by the end of this month.
Thanks,

And, our new episode is out, featuring an interview with the one and only Steve Hackett.
Head over to tabletopgenesis.com to listen, or subscribe to the podcast on I-Tunes.

Hello all!
FYI, our most recent episode has just been released, which is an interview with Mike Keneally, talking about his love for the music of Genesis.
Mike was a great interview, and we truly appreciated him taking the time out of his busy schedule while on tour, to sit down and talk with us about this music.
You can find the podcast at tabletopgenesis.com, and on I-Tunes.
Thanks!

thanks for the heads up! I am a Mike Keneally fan, admittedly with his connection to Kevin Gilbert.
Also props on the Duke episode. Duke is a favorite of mine, at least among the Post-Gabriel work. Probably my favorite drum performance by Phil (Duke Travels namely).
And cool to hear another voice in Peter Jones on that episode. Maybe he'll be a guest again sometime.
Yes, it was good to mix it up a bit with a 6th person in the mix. I'm sure we'll do something similar in the future, with Peter or others.
Glad you enjoyed the Duke show, it was a fun one to talk about.
We've got two additional episodes in the bag, and will next be recording again in late January.
Thanks!

thanks! I should be checking it out soon (today and/or this weekend)
Glad you're enjoying it! For anyone attending RosFest, all 5 members of the TG podcast will be there. It'll be the first time for Eli and I, but Stacy, Simon, and Tom have been to many before.
Should be fun!
We also have two episodes in the bag already, which will be our May and June shows. We're next recording in July, I think?
