    Texas ruined Genesis

    http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/loc...he-6127933.php

I think I'm absolutely certain Phil wrote the words to "Ballad of Big" now. I did read somewhere he wrote the words to "Me and Virgil…"

"John Wesley Hardin….shot a man for drumming too loud!"
"Arf." -- Frank Zappa, "Beauty Knows No Pain" (live version)

I read on Seans facebook page that Texas made Phil Collins an honorary Texan. I thought it was a joke... But heres the real story.
    Still alive and well...

I'm glad Phil or somebody ruined Genesis. All the early Genesis I've heard was pretty dull. like prog rock lite. but I guess them's fightin' words in Texas. glad I'm in Louisville for another 50 minutes.

Well, it behooved the state of Texas to respond to Phil Collin's generosity in some official capacity. Hopefully, they bought him a whiskey too.

That seems to be their purpose. Although, you wouldn't know it if you went to school there...

They have a restaurant in Texas called "Texas Roadhouse"? Wouldn't it just be "Roadhouse"? I mean, you'd kinda have to know you were in Texas...

Some school districts in Texas support Genesis with the uncritical enthusiasm of true fanboys.

They're not real Texans, they're from new England.

Have you only heard From Genesis to Revelation or something? Different strokes, etc. but you're in a true minority I think. Unless you consider the baseline for prog to be Merzbow or something, and everything else is prog rock lite.

or maybe he's just heard things like 'Ripples' and 'Entangled'. In which case, of course, 'lite' is a very good thing

I've browsed early Genesis when time allowed. I'll try sitting through an entire album sometime. which ones do you recommend?

that's one item I won't try IF I go to Texas Roadhouse. I'm not a big fan of steak houses, mainly cause they're LOUD. around here anyway.

I'm not sure what qualifies as early in this instance. But, the one with the most enduring power for me is Selling England by the Pound. They don't rock in the conventional sense, most of the time. They're really melodic, and Selling England by the Pound has this hazy, sleepy vibe, with occasional rushes of energy, that only heightens the dreamlike somnolence that is the ambient temperature of the album. It all fits in with the album's concept, though. It's a really complete piece, and an original work.

I plan to try to make them myself one day. I confess on being a HUGE fan of steak houses. I now have a favorite steak: flatiron steak. Especially from Longhorn, opposite the Texas Roadhouse on 47 in Millville.

Actually, Texas Roadhouse is a chain - I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least one in Texas. (Does a little web research.) Yep, lots.

We have one around here. We call it "Texas Outhouse."
