    Hawkwind-11 disc box set!

This Is Your Captain Speaking… Your Captain is Dead includes first 5 studio albums, 2 live albums and collection of singles from 1970-74
Hawkwind have confirmed the launched of an 11-disc box set covering their formative years.

This Is Your Captain Speaking… Your Captain Is Dead contains their first five studio albums, two live albums and a compilation of singles.

Parlophone Records say: “On January 28, 1970, Hawkwind – Dave Brock, Mick Slattery, Nik Turner, Terry Ollis, Dik Mik, and John A. Harrison – signed to Liberty Records. Slattery left soon after, to be replaced by Huw Lloyd-Langton, and the banded record their first, self-titled, album at Trident Studios in London.

“The period from 1970 to 1974 proved to be a busy time, seeing several lineup changes, the rise to prominence of a certain Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister, the ingenious Space Ritual Tour – and a peculiar ban from BBC recording sessions. This box set celebrates that period.”

This Is Your Captain Speaking… is released on March 23 and it’s available for pre-order now.

Apart from the Greasy Truckers set (which I believe has been released on it's own, hasn't it?) and a gaggle of tracks on the singles disc (specifically the original mix of Seven By Seven and the Roadhawks version of Silver Machine), I think already have all this stuff, or nearly all of it, anyway. Surely, they could have dug up some unreleased stuff for this.

But for those of us who don't have any of the early stuff this might be just what the doctor ordered.
I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.

Are you kidding me? If you haven't got this stuff already, it's a fantastic package. However, most people with a half interest in the great Hawkwind will have most if not all of this already. Who is it aimed at?

Most, if not all of this is available elsewhere. Unless you want the box, this may not be all it's cracked up to be. Note that the studio albums on the 11CD box do NOT have bonus tracks that are available on their individual release. I haven't studied it, but it also looks like the last album in the collection, is just a collection of the bonus tracks that should have been on the individual albums. Greasy Truckers, 1999 Space Party have been reissued a few times.

Now, if you're looking for *rare* Hawkwind, Parallel Universe compilation cannot be beat.

This is got everything from the vaults, great liner notes AND it's very inexpensive! From EMI to boot!

Not counting the singles disk, there are 6 disks I've never even heard, so good!

I've never heard the first album or Doremi Fasol Latido. Greasy Truckers I've only heard the LP with Camel, etc. 199 Party I don't even know.

    Are these even new remasters?

Most of the bonus disc is available as extra tracks on the 90s remasters which are generally available cheaply. Some of the mixes are different here, I don't remember those mono single mixes being on the 90s CDs.

I'd pick this up if the CDs are remastered. The Peter Mew remasters from 1996 are...not that good, IMO.

That's not clear at this stage. If I had to guess, I'd say no, as it appears to be a budget dump.

The mono singles mixes are on Parallel Universe. The next 10 tracks are most of the bonus material from ISOS, Doremi & HotMG. The last three are slightly more difficult to get on CD at present as they are the two versions of the 1978 Silver Machine single reissue that coincided with Roadhawks. If they'd just release those as extras on a CD release of Roadhawks that would make me happy.
