That's the greatest part of the awesome documentary 'It Was 20 Years Ago Today' from 1987 - the part where a couple of participants of that event claim that an actual levitation did take place. Though apparently just "a little"!

    LEAVE KATY ALONE!!!!!
Compact Disk brought high fidelity to the masses and audiophiles will never forgive it for that

After their song (probably Magic Carpet Ride or that other song that was big, ya know the one I mean, I'm blanking on the title right now), Ed calls them over and asks all the band members who their favorite bands or musicians are. I think Goldie McJohn mentions Jimmy Smith, which Ed approved of. Then he goes around and asks all the others, and one of them says The Fugs. Ed says, "I'm sorry, say that again?", band member repeats, "The Fugs, they're from Greenwich Vilage", Ed replies, "The Frogs?", finally the band member has to spell the band name for him before Ed gets it. Always wondered if that was Ed trying to be cute, or if he really didn't hear the band member the first two times.
After they mimed to "It's Never Too Late" Ed called them over. It was eccentric bass player Nick St Nicholas who told Ed his fave band was "from right here in the Village, The Fugs!", thus setting off a humorous chain of mispronunciations from Ed and correcting from Nick. Jerry Edmonton, drummer, simply said "Hendrix" when asked. Ed said, "Who?" and Jerry said, "Jimi Hendrix." To which Ed repeated, "Jimi Hendrick."

I've known Nick for several years and once when I was at his house in Ventura in the late 90s I actually sat down with him and watched this clip. Too cool to be sitting next to the guy as we watched a younger version of himself on the Ed Sullivan Show from years before.

I stand corrected. For some reason I thought the song was Born To Be Wild. But then when I saw it, it was a compilation program that aired in the late 90's that cut together various clips of the rock groups who appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. They may have taken the more familiar, iconic song and cut the post-song banter in from a different appearance.

I remember when VH1 did that comp show and you're absolutely right -- they used the btbw/MCR medley as that was the more popular clip, and edited the interview onto it. They did It's Never Too Late later in the show on the original broadcast.

I will not sully the reputation of one of the hottest women to ever walk upon the face of this planet by allowing her to appear in the same sentence with whatever Katy Perry is, nor to allow any intellectual comparison to exist in that regard. My god have mercy on your soul.

Rumor has it, don't know if it's true or not as it was great high-school music discussion fodder, that the Fugs appeared at one show in purple jock straps. Oh, the humanity!

Really doesn't help hide the baby fat when they're wearing their 1973 Genesis tour maternity shirts either.

That's about all you need to know.

The only Fugs tune I can remember is "Wet Dream." Must've come to me after looking at Katy.
