Great bands you keep forgetting about ....

    ....until you hear them again.

I don't know what it is with me, but some great bands just do not stick in my memory banks until I hear them again and then they are forgotten again quite soon until the next time I hear them and the process repeats over and over. Here are some examples of great songs by great bands that my memory refuses to catalogue.

Only able to add this one as I heard it on the radio this morning, thus jogging the brain awake & I thought "bloody hell, yea, Curved Air, I'd forgotten about them....again"

And only able to add some Atomic Rooster as I heard one of their songs last night on Johnny Walker's BBC show Sounds of the 70s.

And Mr. Fox, going through the folk collection yesterday, put on a British folk compilation album and there it was Mr Fox...fantastic!

Now, memory you bastard, remember: Curved Air, Atomic Rooster, Mr. Fox, okay?

Seru Giran, the Argentinian superstars of the early-to-mid 80s. They were less intriguing than Charly Garcia's earlier efforts, but their music was intelligent, fun and extremely well executed.

I can't remember any bands that I've forgotten about.

Animal Logic. Hard to go wrong with Steward Copeland and Stanley Clarke. Add in Deborah Holland's beautiful voice, and it's just icing on the cake. I forget how good their first album was until I throw it in the CD player.

I play my iPod on random play at work a lot and every once in a while a band will pop up that makes my ears perk up that I have not heard or thought about in a while. The latest was Badfinger. Every time one of their songs pop up I remember what a great little pop / rock band they were.

I have some channels created on Pandora that play songs I recognize but cannot place until I look. I've heard Happy The Man that I thought was maybe Genesis, Steve Roach that I thought was maybe Tangerine Dream, and Thinking Plague that I thought was Henry Cow.

    Like I said, Alzheimer's.

    ^^

Could've been worse, Carlberg. Parkinsons? Neo-prog?

Yeah I loved that song, but their albums had lots of filler.

From time to time I will go on a listening binge with music with a few "ethnic" influences (i.e. non-european) - Deep Foreest, and to a lesser extent Red Box and Gentlemen Without Weapons. Then I'll go for long periods during which I forget i even have those albums.

So do I and with good reason because every time I go back to that debut album I'm disappointed with it, and it can't be a good sign when my favourite song on the album is the Pink Floyd cover on the bonus disc in the digipak version.
