The new album arrived today - on first listen it's a winner.
There are definitely some progressive influences coming through - playing with 3 Friends last year must have rubbed off on them.
Yup, they're good, I'll be buying the new one, hope they make their way through Boston at some stage I'm sure they are great live.

That influence goes back much further and is shared by all the leading Moulettes members (Hannah, Ollie, Ruth and Jim). Bassplayer Jim Mortimore has played with Arthur Brown in the past and is the son of Malcolm Mortimore, who drums on the Gentle Giant album Three Friends.The new album arrived today - on first listen it's a winner.

Been playing the Preternatural constantly and it may well be my 2016 album of the year! They are only doing a Canadian tour this year Ian, who knows what the future holds for this exceptional group of musicians...really looking forward to show on July 7.

Have had the fortune to have seen them live three times now, all gigs were quite different but wonderful in their own right. It was really funny to see how much their performance at Shrewsbury Folk Festival puzzled the regulars there. I even heard remarks around me mentioning "Ooh, they are far too progrock for me".
When I saw them last year at the Cavern in Toronto, I mentioned to them that they sounded like the Andrew Sisters at times...looking forward to seeing them again next month.

The vocals, arranging, and writing for that matter are all pretty damn outrageous. Such a fresh, organic feel this talented bunch possesses.

The Bears Revenge came two days ago and I'm loving it to death. The last track is astounding. This group scratches a lot of itches for me personally. Can't wait to catch them live.
Moulettes have been in Canada for a few days. They have been in a rehearsal production facility in Montreal preparing for their cross Canada tour. Arcade Fire are in the room next to them.
I remember tomorrow
Just spun the new one for the first time last night. Great stuff. One of the songs, Parasite, I believe, definitely had a few Gentle Giant moments. I can see why they are getting some puzzled looks at folk festivals. That element is pretty far submerged on Preternatural.

Although I really like their albums and simply adore them in a live environment. I could probably spend a whole gig just admiring the work of drummer Oliver Austin, whose approach to drumming I find incredibly refreshing. I also know from first hand experience that he is always very much aware of the sonic environment he is playing in. Saw them playing almost acoustically, with hardly any amplification, in a small theatre and he kept it all extremely well in balance with the rest of the band. Last time I saw them was in a small church which up to a few years ago would be a superb spot for them but they were already playing some songs from the then to be released album Preternatural and again they all kept it very much in check, of course helped by their own sound engineer.
