    Beethovens 6th

This is a magical piece of music, all progressive fans should love it. It has healing and soothing abilities. Give it a try.

    Yes it is.

It seems to be always packaged with the 5th, obviously because they are chronologically next to each other, but musically they are poles apart.

I have two sets where it is paired with the 8th, and it flows pretty nicely!

This is the one typically referred to as "The Pastoral" one, correct? It's apparently reflective of Ludwig's love of the outdoors!

    ^ Correct!
More of a fan of the baroque, but there is music of Beethoven than transcends genres. Moonlight sonata, for one.

The list of classical music that prog fans should love is a long one. Probably deserves its own thread.
I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.

The Pastoral has been one of my all-time faves for years.

BTW - check out his Emperor Suite (5th piano concerto) - also an all-time fave. (Not the same sort of music, though.)

I see very little similarity between the 5th and the 6th. Chalk and cheese, IMO.

My favorite version of the 6th is with Buno Walter conducting the Columbia Symphony Orchestra. Sublime.

First in to wish LvB happy birthday.

Probably the greatest of all musicians who have lived.

    My favorite is the 7th.

A wonderful version. Others I love are Pierre Monteux with the Vienna Philharmonic, and Hans Pfitzner with the Berlin Philharmonic (World Premiere Recording)

"The Pastoral"-love it! Got into it because of the "Fantasia" soundtrack.
